Yang Xiao’er
Biography
An arranged match she chose
Yuan Tuan arranged Yang Xiao’er’s match with Li Xizhi after the master of her intended peak was unavailable. She arrived as a quiet, warm-spoken junior, and their early meetings included her sharing news about the Eastern Fire Grotto Heaven and her father’s warning not to provoke Chu Yi. When she worried that her modest talent made her an unsuitable match, Li Xizhi answered her frankly; she responded with a kiss. Much later, she told her father that she had chosen Qingsui Peak herself and would make the same choice again, correcting any impression that she had simply been sent away against her will. (Chapters 447, 449–450, 1662–1663)
A partner in family and sect affairs
As Li Xizhi’s wife, she helped sustain his ties to both the Yang and Li families. She brought their son, Li Chenghuai, to him when he planned to return the boy to the Li clan for safety, and later reunited with Chenghuai when the family made that possible. When Xizhi faced Foundation Establishment, she prayed for his success and contributed a rare spirit water she had kept from an earlier gift. She also crossed the Eastern Sea to reach him during a dangerous period, checked his injuries before discussing his damaged robe, and helped him interpret shifting sect politics. (Chapters 507, 624–628, 644, 718–720, 1244–1245)
In later years, Xiao’er remained a careful adviser rather than pressing her husband or son toward public status. During the dispute with Great Konghai Temple, her confidence helped steady Xizhi as he weighed how far to respond. She also counseled that Chenghuai should cultivate the Yang family’s Supreme Shaman lineage quietly alongside his Untraceable Presence and take the time needed to prepare before seeking a divine ability. (Chapters 1300–1301, 1663–1664)
Appearance and personality
The first description calls Xiao’er ordinary-looking and modest in talent, but warm and affectionate in conversation. At fifty-eight, Yang family pills and resources left her looking no older than thirty; later she could be severe when confronting her father, though her expression softened as they spoke. (Chapters 447, 898, 1662–1663)
Abilities and cultivation
At fifty-eight, Xiao’er was still refining her cultivation and intended to use the full sixty-year period before attempting Foundation Establishment. (Chapter 898)
Relationships
- Li Xizhi: Her husband; their relationship grew from an arranged match into a partnership marked by trust, practical counsel, and concern for each other’s safety. (Chapters 447, 718–720, 1300–1301)
- Li Chenghuai: Her son, whose reunion with her followed a period of separation while Xizhi arranged his return to the Li family. (Chapters 507, 627–628)
- Yang Ruiyi: Her father. She acknowledged his role in her marriage while telling him she had chosen it and held no resentment. (Chapters 1662–1663)
Items
Xiao’er gave Li Xizhi a feathered robe from her dowry; after it was damaged, she examined it with alarm before learning that his injuries were not serious. She also gave him a rare spirit water she had received from her peak to support his Foundation Establishment preparations. (Chapters 447, 644, 718)
