Xiao Chuchou

Xiao Chuchou is Xiao Chuting’s elder brother, a widely traveled clan elder who strengthens the Li–Xiao alliance before becoming part of his brother’s cultivation.

Biography

A pragmatic alliance and a predetermined end

During the Xiao Family’s decline, Chuchou leaves its treasures and Essence Gathering Pills to Chuting and goes abroad to seek opportunities. The experience gives him broad knowledge but does not spare him the weakness of age. While exploring Mount Wu with Yuansi, he refuses a life-extending blood sacrifice because his own father became Chi Wei’s sacrifice. Yet he also explains that Chi Wei once saved countless people, unsettling Yuansi’s simple distinction between good and evil. Chuchou treats survival and obligations to descendants as pressures capable of corrupting even former heroes. (Chapters 202 and 208–209)

He identifies the Li Family as a useful western barrier and proposes a marriage alliance if Tongya reaches Foundation Establishment. He favors mutual support without a union so close that one family might usurp the other. Later he helps Tongya place formation flags for the trap against Yu Yufeng, explaining Chuting’s manipulation of their enemy’s greed. With Nanshan Weng and Chen Taojing, he kills Yufeng and tells Tongya to use the weakened Yu position to rise, while conveying Chuting’s condition that no market be established on Moongaze Lake. (Chapters 209–210 and 258–261)

As his lifespan nears its end, Chuchou recognizes that his Darkening Clouds and Chuting’s Man On Creek were arranged as complementary paths by Xiao Xianyou. His body withers into smoke as Chuting’s aura surges, and the family bell marks an ancestor’s death. Chuting later remembers consuming his elder brother, acknowledging both the suffering and the calculation that treated their lives as resources for the clan’s survival. (Chapters 295 and 410)

Appearance and personality

He is deeply wrinkled and increasingly frail, remembering a vigorous youth while admitting that his qi and movement have weakened. His worldly knowledge supports a pragmatic outlook, but his refusal of sacrificial rituals shows a personal boundary rooted in his father’s fate. (Chapters 208 and 295)

Abilities and cultivation

Chuchou is a mid-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator whose immortal foundation is Darkening Clouds. He performs Spirit Sealing Techniques and helps fix formation flags under a prepared plan. In the battle with Yu Yufeng he uses a patterned copper rod, recognizing the enemy’s Jade Court General foundation and the effects of sacrificial cultivation. Age has left his cultivation stagnant and his movements diminished; the complementary relation between Darkening Clouds and Chuting’s Man On Creek ultimately makes him vulnerable to being consumed by his brother. (Chapters 208, 210, 258, 260 and 295)
