Biography

From village companion to Li family matriarch

As a child in Lijing Village, Yun is fond of Xiangping, who is close to her age. Their families support the match, and Li Mutian’s proposal leads to their marriage. In the difficult days afterward, Yun helps Ren Ping’er care for the bereaved household. Later, she confides that pregnancy has left her tired; she and Xiangping welcome twins, and she becomes part of the household’s daily care for its children. (Chapters 3, 8–17, 28, 37, 44, 49)

Yun continues to share the home with Xiangping’s relatives as the family grows. She reads with Li Jingtian, and when Jingtian returns safely from danger on Mount Lijing, she reports home to Yun before retiring. Yun remains a steady presence in the household as the younger generation takes on risks beyond it. (Chapters 68, 89, 96)
