Ren Ping’er

Ren Ping’er is Li Changhu’s wife and Li Xuanxuan’s mother. Widowed soon after becoming pregnant, she helps sustain the extended Li household through grief, child-rearing and the ordinary work that continues beside its new cultivation ambitions. (Chapters 12, 17–18, 31, and 49)

Biography

Widowhood and care for the household

Ping’er’s shy announcement of her pregnancy accompanies the family’s first opportunity to cultivate. Changhu’s murder abruptly destroys the future she expected, and she faints when she learns what has happened. Li Mutian consults her about their child’s name, and she chooses Xuanxuan. As the boy grows old enough to miss his father, she comforts him with the explanation that Changhu has gone somewhere far away, protecting him from a loss she cannot undo. (Chapters 12, 17–18, and 31)

Her grief does not remove her from the work of the family. She sews clothing, cares for the children of the wider household and helps move the ailing Mutian when he collapses, having already lost her own father. By her forties she has aged visibly and struggles with sleep, sharing concerns beside the fireplace with Tian Yun. Xuanxuan grows within that extended care rather than under his father’s guidance; her continued attention provides a domestic continuity that cultivation and political success cannot supply on their own. (Chapters 31, 49, 82, and 89)

Appearance and personality

Ping’er is initially shy and later persistently protective of her child. In her forties the years of loss and household care have left visible age and difficulty sleeping. Her quiet sewing and conversation with Tian Yun show an ordinary family life continuing amid the cultivators’ expanding responsibilities. (Chapters 12, 31, and 89)

Abilities and cultivation

Her contribution centers on child-rearing, sewing and care for older relatives. No cultivation attainment is established for her in these events. She sustains the household through practical attention rather than a demonstrated supernatural power. (Chapters 31, 49, and 82)
