Shamoli

Biography

Exile, restoration, and allegiance

After a demon killed his father, Mu Jiaoman, Shamoli fled Eastern Mount Yue with loyal tribesmen and sought refuge with the Li family. The eastern life initially dazzled him, but its political customs repeatedly left him in danger of offending the people whose support he needed. Li backing gave him a claim against Qimu’s usurping regime; Shamoli then led a revolt as the former king’s son, regained the throne, and acknowledged that his power depended on the Li family. His kingship was therefore both a restoration of his family’s standing and a vassal role under the Li. (Chapters 173–175, 193–195, 745)

Choosing cultivation over rule

As Eastern Mount Yue’s ruler, Shamoli enjoyed royal comforts but also helped maintain order with the Li family. He practiced the Purple Thunder Secret Origin Technique, which caused infertility; that risk shaped his desire for an heir, while Li Tongya also warned that Shamoli was overtaxing himself and losing vitality. He eventually chose to leave political status behind: after reaching the fourth Qi layer, he came to Li Yuanjiao alone and asked to cultivate on the mountain instead of seeking power. He continued to use thunder arts in support of Li allies, but by the time he was described as an elder, the lifespan cost of his unorthodox methods had visibly aged him. (Chapters 276, 279, 359, 384, 422, 745)

Appearance and personality

Shamoli shifted from a young claimant enchanted by Eastern luxuries to an aging, half-closed-eyed Mount Yue elder. He could be indulgent and politically tactless, but he learned to speak cautiously while dependent on eastern patrons and later chose a quieter cultivation life over authority. (Chapters 175, 745)

Abilities and cultivation

Purple Thunder Secret Origin Technique

Shamoli practiced the Purple Thunder Secret Origin Technique and used its thunder arts in combat, including to support An Zheyan during a battle against devil cultivators. By then he had reached the fourth layer of Qi cultivation. The technique was said to cause infertility, and Mount Yue’s thunder methods consumed lifespan; his unorthodox thunder arts were also associated with his unusually rapid aging. (Chapters 279, 359, 422, 745)
