Kan Xuyu

Kan Xuyu, known as Daoist Master Zipei, protects Yuan Su’s seal and challenges a Maha’s claim that Li Xuanfeng is bound by Buddhist fate. Her Chapter 948 condensation stops in the scene, but a later account says she broke through in a single night and perished; later narration confirms her soul was annihilated and she was not reincarnated. Biography

A custodian of the seal tests competing claims of fate

After Yuan Su’s death, Zipei protects the Xinyou Lucid Marsh Seal from outsiders and later transfers it to Ning Heyuan with an account of its origins. She also guides Li Xuanfeng to a southern posting. When Maha Pi Jia claims Xuanfeng is fated for Buddhism, Zipei challenges him to test that claim and uses the seal to contain him; it later turns Chengshui Tomb into marshland. Though she does not enter Anhuai Heaven to compete for its prize, she waits outside and ambushes Zhelu, taking one strand of Metallic Essence. (Chapters 721–723, 729, 807–810, 882, 890)

A Purple Essence breakthrough followed by death

After years of secluded cultivation troubled by doubts about destiny, Zipei returns to Purple Smoke Blessed Land with Shen Yanqing. She tells her disciple to return home if she falls, then gathers purple qi and begins condensing Heavenly Cultivation Purple Qi Immortal Origin Metallic Essence. She stops and sighs in this scene. A later account says she broke through to Purple Essence in a single night and perished; a separate narration states that her soul was entirely annihilated and no reincarnation followed. Appearance and personality

Zipei wears flowing purple robes and is described with a habitually calm expression. She is decisive when protecting the seal or confronting a Maha, while acknowledging long doubts about destiny before her final breakthrough. (Chapters 721, 807–808, 948, 1049)

Abilities and cultivation

Zipei is a peak Purple Mansion cultivator and a pillar of the Purple Smoke Gate. Chapter 948 shows her begin to condense Purple Essence and stop, while later testimony says she achieved the breakthrough in a single night before she died. She wields divine abilities and uses the Xinyou Lucid Marsh Seal to contain Pi Jia and transform Chengshui Tomb into marshland; when she draws gray mist, it becomes three kinds of flame. The mechanics and limits of these effects are not fully described. (Chapters 721, 808–810, 882, 948, 1049)

Relationships

• Li Xuanfeng: Zipei’s guidance sends him to the southern border. She later disputes Pi Jia’s claim that Xuanfeng is destined for the Northern Buddhist Sect. (Chapters 723, 807–808)
• Shen Yanqing: Her disciple. Zipei entrusts her with the Shen Family’s responsibilities if she falls. (Chapters 562, 948)
• Yuan Su: She had old ties with him and preserved the Xinyou Lucid Marsh Seal for him. (Chapters 721, 729)
• Li Jiangqun: Zipei privately remembers him as “Brother Jiangqun”; the nature of their relationship is not established. (Chapter 948)

Items

Zipei preserves the Xinyou Lucid Marsh Seal for Yuan Su and gives it to Ning Heyuan in Chapter 729. She later uses the seal against Pi Jia, though its return to her hand is not recounted. She also gives Shen Yanqing a Profound Thunderstone from Qunyi. After taking one strand of Metallic Essence from Zhelu, she later gives a portion of True Essence to the Dragon Clan rather than use it for reincarnation, according to the Dragon Clan; whether this was the same strand is not explicit.
