Ju Wu

Ju Wu is Jiao Zhongzi’s speaking demonic mount and an inhabitant of Mount Wu. Its failed attempt to rescue Mu Moli ends in captivity, where its knowledge of the mountain’s formation and shamanic practices helps the Li Family secure the territory. (Chapters 684–688)

Biography

A failed rescue and coerced cooperation

Called out when the Li Family attacks Mount Wu, Ju Wu first rebukes Mu Moli for causing trouble, then tries to free him from Li Ximing’s Radiant Origin Pass. Li Xijun intercepts the rescue with freezing yin qi and swordplay, cuts off two claws, and leaves the demon vomiting black blood. Reduced to a mount and weaker than many rogue cultivators, Ju Wu realizes that helping its companion may cost its own life. Mu Moli orders it to flee and find their senior brother, but Kongheng is already waiting nearby and captures it after only a few miles. (Chapters 684–686)

Ju Wu initially refuses to help the victors, grieving its apparently slain companion and fearing Jiao Zhongzi’s response. Xijun reassures it that Xiao Yuansi has the backing of a Purple Mansion immortal family, then presses a sword to its neck. Ju Wu yields the brown shamanic talisman that opens the grand formation, allowing the Lis to preserve the array instead of smashing it. It also explains the heavy spiritual energy that impedes immortal arts, identifies the captives raised as blood offerings, and describes the spells Duanmu Kui taught on the mountain. Its resentment surfaces when it recounts how advanced shamanic techniques were withheld from the lesser inhabitants while stronger practitioners benefited from celestial texts. (Chapters 686–687)

Cooperation does not secure release. When Xiao Yuansi finishes assessing the mountain and its politics, he takes Ju Wu away for further questioning despite its wailing pleas. Ju Wu survives the conquest, but its position changes from a poorly empowered mount within Mount Wu to a captive valued for information. Its forced assistance leaves the Li Family with an intact formation and a clearer understanding of the territory they are annexing. (Chapter 688)

Appearance and personality

Ju Wu resembles a long-tailed, black-furred panther with emerald-green eyes and a blood-colored tongue. It speaks thunderously and can initially adopt a fierce expression, but terror breaks that pose under a blade or while powerful cultivators discuss a Daoist Master’s impending death. Its refusal to speak after Mu Moli’s apparent death also shows an attachment to its companion beneath its concern for survival. (Chapters 684, 686, 688)

Abilities and cultivation

Wind movement and combat limitations

Ju Wu emerges as a river of black cloud that condenses into its panther form, leaps like a rolling cloud, and spits wind while charging. These abilities are insufficient against Xijun’s Slaughter Jun Kui Light: chilling yin qi enters its body, arrests its movement, and makes spellcasting difficult while his sword repeatedly strikes. Its escape is equally limited, since Kongheng catches it nearby and binds it in golden chains. It is unable to resist either the freezing sword assault or the monk’s restraints. (Chapters 684–686)

Mount Wu’s formation and shamanic knowledge

Ju Wu can open the mountain’s grand formation using the shamanic talisman it carries in its mouth. It knows that the mountain’s unusually heavy spiritual energy weakens the clarity of immortal arts, especially wind-riding, and can explain the sacrificial captives and recorded spells to outsiders. Such familiarity does not make it a master of the advanced rituals: it explicitly complains that Foundation Establishment shamanic techniques were kept from the lesser inhabitants. Its most consequential contribution is therefore access and information supplied under coercion. (Chapters 686–687)

Relationships

  • Mu Moli: Companion whom it tries to rescue and grieves after his apparent death. (Chapters 684–686)
  • Jiao Zhongzi: Master who uses Ju Wu as a mount; fear of his retaliation initially discourages cooperation. (Chapters 684, 686)
  • Li Xijun: Defeats it and forces it to open the formation. (Chapters 685–686)
  • Kongheng: Captures it during its attempted escape. (Chapter 686)
  • Xiao Yuansi: Takes custody of it for further questioning. (Chapter 688)

Items

Ju Wu carries a brown shamanic talisman in its mouth. Spitting it out and issuing a command dissolves the formation’s black mist, opening access to Mount Wu without destroying the protective array. It is an access token used by Ju Wu, distinct from the advanced shamanic techniques the mountain’s stronger cultivators refuse to teach it. (Chapters 686–687)
