Jiang Heqian
Jiang Heqian is a survivor of the ruined Jiang Family who turns inherited formation knowledge and decades of concealment against the Yu Family. Known later as Master Lu, he completes his revenge and leaves the lakes rather than attempting to rebuild his clan. (Chapters 270–272, 638–639)
Biography
Revenge without a restored family
The Yu and An families once belonged to the Jiang Family’s subordinate branches, but the collapse of the main lineage leaves Heqian alive among its ruins while the Yus prosper. Allied with Fei Wangbai and Li Tongya, he uses knowledge passed down by his grandfather to open the Jade Court Guarding Formation at Milin Marketplace. He kills Yu Xiao’ou by piercing his heart with his hand, avenging kin destroyed by the Yu household. Yet the victory also exposes the families’ interwoven blood: he resembles Xiao’ou’s Jiang-descended wife, and his satisfaction softens into sorrow as he looks at the dying man. He prevents the bodies from burning and asks the survivors to bury them, before leaving Wangbai to continue assisting Tongya. (Chapters 270–272)
Heqian’s revenge continues through patient concealment rather than a public restoration. Disguised as the Qi Cultivation guest Master Lu, he spends decades inside the weakened Yu Family, arranges Yu Mugao’s death, and helps bring about its fragmentation. When he finally visits the Li Family, Li Wushao recognizes that the supposed guest is actually a mid-Foundation cultivator. Heqian reveals his identity to Li Ximing and celebrates the completed reckoning, regretting that Tongya and Wangbai cannot witness it. His success does not soften his distrust of immortal sects: he warns that a family needs the sect itself to trust it, since the favor of a mortal patron such as Yuan Su cannot secure its future indefinitely. (Chapters 638–639)
Heqian asks whether the Lis obtained Jade Smoke Mountain, once his family’s heirloom, but Ximing cannot return an artifact apparently still on Yuanwu Peak. With the blood feud repaid, Heqian declares the Jiang Family a vanished wisp of smoke and chooses to spend his remaining life wandering. He leaves Yu Mugao’s severed head behind as a gift, bringing closure to Li elders including An Zheyan and Li Xuanxuan. His departure marks the end of his personal revenge, rather than the rebirth of the lineage he lost. (Chapter 639)
Appearance and personality
During the marketplace assault he covers his face with mist despite knowing the disguise is inadequate. As Master Lu he wears flowing white robes, holds a fan, and adopts a deliberately frivolous manner that disappears when he faces the Li cultivators. He can delight fiercely in revenge while still grieving blood relatives caught on the other side; once the feud is over, his bitterness toward sect politics remains. (Chapters 270–272, 638–639)
Abilities and cultivation
Jade Court cultivation and formation knowledge
Heqian cultivates the Aged Courtly Path Scripture and possesses the Jade Court General foundation. The path requires Celestial Dust Qi, long lost from the scripture’s transmission; the circumstances of his own acquisition are unknown. During the assault on Milin, six jade beams and intricate patterns extend from his body and palms into the barrier. His grandfather’s knowledge of the Jade Court Guarding Formation lets him breach its barrier while Wangbai suppresses the defenders, defeating protection that would otherwise require a much harder attack. His hand can penetrate Xiao’ou’s body, demonstrating the lethality of his Foundation power at close range. (Chapters 270–271)
Concealment and patient infiltration
By his return he is explicitly at mid-Foundation, although the Yu household has accepted him as a Qi Cultivator. Ximing reasons that the Jiang inheritance must contain aura-concealing techniques effective against weaker cultivators, and that the absence of Foundation elders after Yu Xiaogui’s death makes the infiltration possible. This is Ximing’s explanation of the deception, rather than a named technique Heqian demonstrates; Wushao can see through the disguise when they meet. (Chapter 638)
Relationships
- Fei Wangbai: Ally in the marketplace attack and old companion whom Heqian wishes could see the feud’s completion. (Chapters 270–272, 638)
- Li Tongya: Partner against the Yu Family; Heqian later identifies himself through their shared attack. (Chapters 270–272, 638)
- Li Ximing: Receives his warning, request for an heirloom, and final gift. (Chapters 638–639)
Items
Jade Smoke Mountain is a former Jiang Family heirloom that he seeks to recover by exchange; his conversation with Ximing does not put it back into his possession. He carries a fan in his Master Lu disguise and brings Yu Mugao’s head in a storage pouch, leaving it to the Li Family as proof and a grave offering. (Chapters 638–639)
