Chengyan
Chengyan is a Majestic Earth cultivator and the first Purple Mansion cultivator raised by Changxiao Gate. His role in the failed ambush of Li Zhouwei later brings the White Qilin’s revenge to his mountain gate. (Chapters 1174–1175, 1649–1652)
Biography
Contested treasures and the fall of Changxiao Gate
Chengyan unexpectedly acquires the final portion of Metallic Essence in Anhuai Heaven while stronger cultivators crowd around him. Afraid to keep it and hoping Changxiao waits outside, he sends it beyond the formation. The essence instead transforms into a flesh-devouring stone bird, scattering the pursuers and earning their anger. Chengyan survives but becomes the focus of a lasting grievance from Hengzhu cultivators. His later involvement in the attempt to capture Zhouwei similarly depends on stronger protection: Ling Mei restrains him on Sword Gate territory, rejects his excuses, and warns him away before the confrontation can escalate further. (Chapters 890, 1174–1175)
When Zhouwei and Ximing strike Changxiao Gate, Chengyan finds Changxiao absent and his own formation threatened by Deadly Thunder Formation Destroyer. He recognizes that the weapon signals Azure Pond support, leaving his previous political expectations useless. Chengyan defends the gate with his Majestic Earth umbrella and tries to exploit the lineage’s suppression of techniques to escape. Thunder waiting in the great void drives him back; a concealment talisman fails before Zhouwei’s eyes, and a sudden close approach lets Zhouwei seize him by the throat and suppress his body and artifact. (Chapters 1648–1650)
Captive before the defeated gate, Chengyan angrily rejects Si Yuanli’s moral condemnation and claims that inherited hierarchies, rather than righteousness, determine his fate. Zhouwei briefly pretends to preserve him as a means of locating Changxiao, but actually intends a public execution to complete the campaign and temper his own art. Chengyan dies beneath the Brilliant Yang King’s Axe, and the dispersal of his Majestic Earth power becomes part of the aftermath of the gate’s destruction. (Chapter 1652)
Appearance and personality
Chengyan wears brown robes. He can appear meek before a stronger master such as Ling Mei, yet defiantly denounces the moral authority of great houses when captive. His practical fear of stronger enemies repeatedly shapes his decisions despite his cultivation. (Chapters 1174–1175, 1648, 1652)
Abilities and cultivation
Majestic Earth defenses and escape
Chengyan’s Immortal Without Flaw supports a radiance that suppresses techniques and light. Combined with his carefully cultivated Majestic Radiance, it absorbs Zhouwei’s Imperial Divergence Light and creates an opening to maneuver. Majestic Earth also blunts thunder, allowing the Majestic Blossom Pearl to intercept the waiting lightning. These advantages require mana and timely action: sustained attacks exhaust the detached defensive radiance, while the division between the manifested world and great void separates him from his umbrella’s protection. (Chapters 1649–1650)
His Mind-Shifting Form-Scattering Talisman merges with an art to disperse him into Majestic Earth radiance and drifting mist. This evasion does not fool Zhouwei’s golden eyes. Once caught at close range, his spell-centered strength cannot compensate for the weakness of his dharma body against the grip and suppression; even a separated head and tearing body fail to escape the heavenly gate. (Chapter 1650)

- Changxiao: Senior whose absence leaves him without decisive support.
- Baibin: Gate master who repeatedly appeals to him for protection.
- Ling Mei: Restrains his interference in the earlier ambush.
- Li Zhouwei: Captures and executes him in revenge for Lake Xian.

Items
Chengyan uses the Hundred-Ridge Profound Stone Umbrella, the Majestic Blossom Pearl spirit embryo, and a Mind-Shifting Form-Scattering Talisman. The Metallic Essence he briefly holds is thrown out of Anhuai Heaven rather than retained as a mastered treasure. His protective umbrella is lost to Zhouwei’s suppression during the final battle.
