Serpent Braid is the Stone Giant-blooded leader of the Boneless Bird scavengers. He leads the raid on the Short Horn Star to capture Kerlodd for DarkStar, but is defeated and sold as a bounty prisoner.

Biography

The Black Star Mercenary Group

Serpent Braid recruits two other scavenger bands for a lucrative attempt to seize a pure-blooded Godoran. He boards the Short Horn Star, murders a hostage, and drives toward the control room with overwhelming strength. Although he defeats the initial defender, Han Xiao blocks his advance and exploits his weak mental resistance. Kerlodd and the players then eliminate his followers, leaving Serpent Braid wounded and alone. He surrenders to avoid death and immediately reveals DarkStar as the client when threatened. Han later sells the living bounty claim and custody of Serpent Braid to a mercenary rather than taking him to the distant issuing jurisdiction himself. (Chapters 321–328)

Appearance and personality

Serpent Braid stands almost four meters tall, with bulging muscles, stone skin, a beard-covered face, and a braid hanging to his waist. He is loud, ferocious, greedy, and eager for strong opponents, but not blindly suicidal. Once his health is nearly exhausted, he drops his hammer to preserve his life; his professed refusal to betray a client also collapses immediately under threat. (Chapters 321–326)

Abilities and class

He is a level 70 Pugilist whose Stone Giant ancestry gives him exceptional strength and physical resistance. Gray Pugilist flames reinforce his attacks and defenses, and ordinary bullets or low-level energy beams leave little more than marks on his skin. His corresponding mental vulnerability allows Han's psychic attacks to stun and debilitate him despite his durability. (Chapters 323–326)

Relationships

  • Han Xiao: Han stops Serpent Braid from taking the control room, defeats and interrogates him, then sells his bounty custody.
  • Kerlodd: Kerlodd is the intended kidnapping target whose capture would have earned the scavengers a DarkStar payment.
  • Cesoly: Cesoly helps organize the ambush and coordinate the search, but abandons the operation when defeat becomes likely.

Items

Serpent Braid uses a massive silver war hammer, mechanical restraints for hostages, and Boneless Bird ships. The hammer is his primary weapon but is not given a distinct proper name. (Chapters 321–326)
