Rossellin

Rossellin is Reynold's elder sister, an Esper whose influence over collective attitudes makes her valuable to both the Black Star Army and revolutionary movements. After Han Xiao secures her release from secret imprisonment, she works as an instructor before becoming the ideological figure known as Preacher.

Biography

Mutation Disaster and the Secret War

Rossellin loses her parents during political unrest on Ceciris and, while still a teenager, sends the much younger Reynold away so that he can have a safer life. Her own response is to use her newly awakened ability to push society toward what she considers more positive values. The resulting religion elevates her to the office of pope, but the authorities treat the movement as sedition: it is destroyed, and she receives a life sentence before being moved between factions as a secret prisoner. When Hutt refuses ordinary bail, Han Xiao invokes Purple Crystal's jurisdiction to free her. She is grateful without becoming deferential, and the reunion restores contact with the brother she had protected by abandoning him years earlier. (Chapters 697–700)

The Evolution Cube and Crimson Dynasty

Rossellin joins the Black Star Army as its Cultural Instructor, teaching recruits and using her understanding of belief to strengthen their sense of belonging. She also helps address Godora's long conflict between pure-blood and hybrid citizens: rather than directly controlling individuals, she uses an amplification system to gradually alter the discriminatory aesthetic assumptions sustaining the divide. Her position in the army gives her stability, but not satisfaction. When would-be revolutionaries seek her out, her appetite for social change outweighs institutional security; she leaves, becomes their spiritual leader under the name Preacher, and gives the Silver Revolutionary Army its name. The Intelligent Plague disrupts the Silver Revolutionary Army's expected rise, but Rossellin remains useful to Han Xiao as an operator able to intensify political divisions. At his request, she works in Modo territory, where her activity and the universal civilizations' interference aggravate existing racial conflict. Her cooperation reflects both strategic alignment with Han and her admitted fascination with overturning entrenched orders, including the three universal civilizations. By Chapters 1283–1284, however, she has withdrawn from the Silver Revolutionary Army and asks to return to her old employer. Han accepts her back on the express condition that she sever further contact with the revolutionary organization, leaving her alive and once again within the Black Star Army. Appearance and personality

Historical images show Rossellin in ornate red-and-white papal robes, with her hair tied beneath an ornament, snow-white skin, bright eyes, and a gentle face resembling Reynold's. Imprisonment leaves her with ragged clothing and hair cut only centimeters long, although her youthful appearance is unchanged. She later favors a dark-blue teacher's robe.
