Luo Xuan
Luo Xuan is Division 13's logistics “ace,” a highly educated young mechanic whose fear of being displaced by Han Xiao turns professional competition into a self-destructive obsession. His technical talent earns early favor, but arrogance and unauthorized reverse engineering ultimately cost him his position.
Biography
Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War
Division 13 assigns Luo Xuan to examine Han Xiao's Lightweight Mechanical Arm because of his record as Western Capital University's top machinery student. Unable to break its encryption, Luo Xuan dismisses the craftsmanship and becomes anxious that the unknown inventor will take his intended covert-operations transfer. He later joins the research department to reproduce Han Xiao's retractable knife, receiving promised advancement before the department's unauthorized appropriation is exposed and he is demoted. Still determined to prove superiority, Luo Xuan disobeys orders and opens a high-explosive bullet; its gaseous incendiary agent ignites, burning the workshop and all his hair. He survives, admits defeat, and is returned to a minor logistics team with his career badly damaged. (Chapters 33–35, 37–38, 43–46, and 52–53)
Appearance and personality
The corpus provides no stable description of Luo Xuan before his accident. After the explosion, guards carry him out soaked by fire suppression, his face blackened and all his hair and eyebrows burned away; quick reactions and a nearby extinguisher prevent worse disfigurement. Luo Xuan is talented, ambitious, proud, and deeply insecure about recognition. He repeatedly interprets Han Xiao's success or indifference as a personal insult, then recognizes too late that narrow-mindedness and overconfidence ruined his prospects. (Chapters 33–38, 46, and 52–53)
Abilities and class
Luo Xuan is a trained machinery specialist, though the corpus does not give him a Super grade or combat role. His academic record and work in logistics establish real technical ability, and he successfully reproduces the relatively simple retractable knife. His limits are equally clear: he cannot crack Han Xiao's layered encryption and fails to identify the volatile state of the incendiary compound before opening a completed bullet. The resulting accident demonstrates flawed judgment rather than lack of all mechanical competence. (Chapters 33, 44, 46, and 52–53)
Relationships
- Han Xiao: Luo Xuan constructs a one-sided rivalry with Han Xiao, fearing that the more capable mechanic will eclipse him. Han Xiao barely knows him and treats his reverse-engineering work as ordinary support activity until the reckless explosion.
- Li Yalin: Li Yalin mistakenly asks whether Luo Xuan created the Lightweight Mechanical Arm. Her praise for the device and abrupt dismissal after learning he did not invent it deepen his resentment of its unknown creator.
- Feng Jun: Feng Jun carries information between Han Xiao and Division 13 and later tells Han Xiao about Luo Xuan's accident. Their connection is administrative rather than personal.
Items
No persistent personal item is established for Luo Xuan. The Lightweight Mechanical Arm, retractable knife, and incendiary bullets he studies are Han Xiao's designs or Division 13 materials. His unauthorized disassembly destroys the workroom rather than producing a lasting invention.
