Jill Emmerson is the elder of the Soul Swap Twins, two siblings whose souls alone can initially operate the Soul Swapper. Years of imprisonment and experimentation under Modo leave Jill ambitious, distrustful, and willing to seize other bodies to secure freedom.

Intelligent Plague and the Association

Jill and his younger brother Warren escape Modo custody by changing bodies and plan to remove the traps embedded in their souls, acquire stronger hosts, and rise quietly. On Planet Earth Ring, Manison's lockdown and the arrival of Black Star's group destroy that plan. Captured with the Soul Swapper, Jill tries to bargain for his life by offering service and claiming the twins are its only possible users. Feidin proves otherwise. Ames then twists both twins' necks, and Hila takes their souls for interrogation. The text does not establish a later revival or independent existence for Jill. (Chapters 1160 and 1164–1169)

Appearance and personality

Jill's original body is not clearly described, and he changes shells; at this stage he occupies an attractive male Spacehuman body with a Pugilist physique. His identity follows his Grade B soul, not the sex, species, or class of a temporary host. He is arrogant about being chosen by the Soul Swapper, cautious when facing overwhelming power, and quick to flatter or bargain when survival is at stake.

Abilities and class

Jill's soul remains Grade B across body changes. The Soul Swapper lets him exchange souls between bodies without rejection, but any host's combat class and physical strength belong to that body rather than to Jill permanently. His own named Esper ability is not established. His unique qualification is attached to his soul, although Feidin's success proves the twins are not literally the only compatible users.

Relationships

  • Warren Emmerson: Warren is Jill's younger brother and fellow Soul Swapper user. They escape, plan, and die together, but remain separate souls and people.
  • Manison: His planetary lockdown traps the twins indirectly while he searches for the Soul Swapper.
  • Ames: Ames kills both twins because their actions endangered Aesop and refuses to preserve them for conventional questioning.
  • Feidin: Feidin's compatibility with the Soul Swapper removes Jill's final leverage and shatters his belief in the twins' uniqueness.

Items
