Emerald Grass is a gifted Pharmacist and plant-controlling Esper whose untested disease once caused mass deaths and led to her imprisonment. Han Xiao arranges her release because her research becomes essential to Sanctuary Three, the Mutation Disaster response, and the Black Star organization's pharmaceutical work.

Biography

Escape from Germinal and the Aquamarine War

Emerald Grass begins this period as a dangerous prisoner on Bell of Death Island, wanted after an experimental drug spreads a lethal disease. Han Xiao exchanges Germinal intelligence for her release and recruits her to Sanctuary Three. Although she initially considers escaping, she judges resistance impossible and instead applies her expertise to cultivating Shadow Stalker Vipers, medical research, and Pharmacist instruction. Her calm detection of surveillance and resistance to tranquilizers show that she cooperates by calculation rather than helplessness. (Chapters 228–231, 271–272, 281, and 288)

Mutation Disaster and the Secret War

By the Mutation Disaster, Emerald Grass runs a feared laboratory at the Sanctuary and treats her experiments as more urgent than political ceremony. She questions Han Xiao about why he selected her years earlier, then studies the virus and the Rhodes Fan Leaf to produce a vital suppressant. Later, when assigned the Subterranean Mutant problem, she creates a species-specific infectious weapon, though the change from extermination to migration means it is not deployed as originally conceived. The Evolution Cube and Crimson Dynasty

Emerald Grass's influence during this period is chiefly scientific rather than a new field adventure. Aurora's powerful life-force potions build on the pharmacology Emerald Grass taught her, and Han Xiao later sends dragon blood to Emerald Grass for research into a body-strengthening medicine. His joking reference to accidentally taking one of her drugs also reflects her established reputation for potent and unpredictable pharmaceutical work, but these scenes do not document the result of the dragon-blood commission. Appearance and personality

Soon after imprisonment, Emerald Grass has dry, unkempt hair and pale, cracked lips, conditions associated with her confinement rather than a permanent design. Later she works in rimless glasses. She is cold, composed, highly observant, and intensely curious; scientific interest can make her insensitive to a subject's comfort, but she is practical enough to abandon resistance or an argument when the balance of power is obvious. Abilities and class

Emerald Grass is a top Pharmacist and an Esper who controls nearby plants, senses disturbances through them, draws on plant life force to heal, and uses vegetation defensively. Her drug resistance defeats heavy tranquilization, while her research ranges from virus suppressants and biological weapons to creature domestication and body-strengthening medicine. She later becomes host to the compatible Natural Spirit Power, though the corpus does not detail the full resulting combat repertoire. Relationships

• Han Xiao: Han Xiao engineers Emerald Grass's release and gives her the facilities and assignments through which her research becomes strategically important. She recognizes that he chose her for reasons he did not initially reveal and dislikes being kept in the dark, yet remains a senior researcher in his organization.
• Aurora: Emerald Grass diagnoses Aurora after her rescue and becomes part of her pharmacological education. Aurora later combines that training with her own Esper Ability to create exceptional life-force potions.
• Hila: Hila distrusts Emerald Grass's scientific interest in Aurora and immediately protects her sister from unwanted experimentation. Emerald Grass backs down rather than escalate the confrontation.
