Heiffal is introduced through a sleepless, anxious night within the Fifth Cohort, where discipline must coexist with dread surrounding the cohort's trials. He later enters the Alpha Cosmos and becomes part of its widening martial community, enduring the contempt of fighters who mistake nonparticipation for cowardice. His eventual inclusion among the names remembered near the final conflict places him among those whose loyalties survive the passage from rigid hierarchy into Randidly's more personal cosmos.
