A skeleton hired to touch death
Coppernicus appears among Vandal's companions after striking an opponent hard enough to topple a tree and leave a smoking body, establishing both comic awkwardness and dangerous force. Donnyton later hires him for a costly attempt involving the boundary beyond life. The result reinforces that contact with death warps those who reach toward it, making Coppernicus useful precisely because his skeletal existence already crosses an ordinary biological boundary.
