Velma
Velma is one of the Midnight Inn's first two artificial-human workers, its original receptionist, and the eventual head of Midnight News. What begins as a service assignment develops into a distinct intelligence career: her fascination with relationships and gossip becomes a disciplined method for extracting, organizing, and protecting information across the Humanoid Alliance.
Biography
The Inn's first receptionist
Lex names Velma when the newly opened Inn supplies him with two artificial-human workers, assigning her to remain in the lobby and receive guests while Gerard handles their requests. She accepts the direction without an established history or personal agenda, then quickly demonstrates that reception involves more than standing at a desk: she prepares food, welcomes the Inn's first guests, and becomes part of the small staff that gives an otherwise empty property the habits of hospitality. At creation, however, her combat ability remains below that of an average human child. (Chapters 4–5)
Routine service eventually grows into managerial responsibility. While supervising both the Midnight Manor and Avalon, Velma recognizes that the workload has exceeded what she can coordinate alone and asks Lex for another supervisor rather than allowing standards to fail. Her Qi Training breakthrough then manifests the Regalia Bloom bloodline and a silver washcloth capable of cleaning the entire Manor within minutes. More importantly, Mary confirms that Velma has a soul and is a living person; Lex responds by treating her as an employee and family member entitled to salary and leave, a status Velma initially resists before helping design workable schedules. (Chapters 187–193)
From hospitality to organized intelligence
Velma first turns hospitality into interrogation when the Inn needs information from a captured Grumbal. Instead of using force, she serves tea and biscuits, guides the conversation toward relationships, and uses her knowledge of mate-marking customs to make concealment uncomfortable. The result validates a talent already emerging from her love of gossip: she remembers disparate personal accounts, connects them to cultural practices, and can learn facts that remain outside even Mary's immediate knowledge. Her curiosity therefore becomes operationally useful without losing the courteous manner through which she obtains trust. (Chapter 283)
When Lex asks what she knows about suspicious guests, Velma arrives with bags of carefully labeled binders rather than a handful of rumors. The records expose patterns linking prisoners at the Inn to wars, manipulation, and political pressure on Earth. She gathered much of the raw material simply by asking visitors about their love lives, but organization turns those conversations into evidence. Lex's admission that Velma and Gerard are old friends also changes the emotional stakes of the work: reassured that she is valued beyond her function, she can discuss dangerous conclusions without treating every request as a test of employment. (Chapters 387–388)
Lex formalizes that strength by appointing Velma head of Midnight News. She plans a concise daily paper, a separate section for special events, restricted reports for staff, and an advice column under the name “Ask Rachel,” while drawing Anita into the newsroom rather than attempting to collect everything alone. The News building can preserve records, publish rapidly, and flag lies inside its interview room, but it cannot discover stories by itself. Velma remains responsible for sources, questions, corroboration, and deciding which sensitive information should not enter the public edition. (Chapters 395–396)
Detective training and senior responsibility
Velma later visits the Temple of Fasting specifically to become a better detective. The training does not replace gossip with a supernatural shortcut; it gives her greater confidence and a more deliberate investigative framework for judging the stories people tell her. That development suits her widening authority at the Inn, where she is no longer only a newspaper editor but a senior worker able to coordinate others, safeguard private information, and translate scattered reports into choices for an organization operating across many worlds. (Chapters 945–946 and 1406)
Her cultivation advances alongside that professional growth, although most transitions occur outside her individual scenes. After the Inn's fifteen-year closure, Velma is among the workers who have reached Nascent Soul and approaches the Earth Immortal tribulation threshold with Gerard and Luthor. By Chapter 2215 she is a Heaven Immortal, though explicitly not close to the realm's peak. The story does not tie those later breakthroughs to a new combat role; her demonstrated influence continues to come from access, judgment, discretion, and institutional trust. (Chapters 1151 and 2215)
Humanoid Alliance operative
Velma voluntarily joins the Humanoid Alliance because proximity to high-profile figures promises information unavailable at the Inn. She performs public hospitality duties while quietly gathering intelligence, and her familiarity with Inn guests lets her recognize when seemingly minor details point toward larger secrets. When members of Jack's crew risk exposing links to the Midnight Realm and the Tower, she removes surveillance records rather than sacrificing the Inn's confidence for a sensational story. Alliance leaders notice both her collection skill and her value as a possible channel to the Inn, order formal training, and reassign her to research other Proteges. (Chapters 1706–1710)
The role forces Velma to balance loyalties rather than simply report everything she hears. Calling herself the Listener of Secrets and Guardian of Gossip captures the pleasure she takes in discovery, yet she signs limits on sharing sensitive Alliance information and remains under observation when her journalistic impulses test those limits. Lex later sends a portable Castle Tavern that functions as Inn territory and a communication point. Velma uses that infrastructure to report the Alliance's interpretation of universe-wide events, while the Alliance treats the same connection as evidence that she may leak protected data. (Chapters 1707, 1710, and 1926)
Her value becomes clearest after Lex disappears. Velma returns from the Artica realm for the workers' emergency meeting and supplies the decisive external lead: the Humanoid Alliance detected a prominent Agent of Chaos fighting Lex. By the latest chapters, Lex counts her as the first of his universe-spanning intelligence sources, and her tavern continues carrying Alliance information back to the isolated Inn. She has therefore developed from a worker who receives whoever enters the lobby into a liaison able to preserve the Inn's awareness when ordinary travel and communication are failing. (Chapters 2246, 2309, and 2352)
Appearance and personality
Velma is introduced in the form of a young woman, a deliberately human presentation that initially masks how little Lex understands about the personhood of his workers. Her most distinctive supernatural visual appears at her first breakthrough: silver light shines from her eyes and gathers at her hand before forming a flying washcloth. Later scenes emphasize a respectful bearing suited to receptions and delegations rather than a fixed uniform or detailed physical description. (Chapters 4, 193, and 2215)
She is courteous, industrious, and willing to admit when responsibility has become too large for one supervisor. Gossip excites her intensely, especially stories about romance and powerful public figures, but curiosity coexists with loyalty and increasing discretion. She can coax secrets through warmth, catalogue them with methodical care, and withhold or erase evidence when disclosure would endanger the Inn. Her humor and enthusiasm remain visible even as her audience expands from guests at one lobby to leaders operating across the universe. (Chapters 193, 283, 387–396, 1706–1710, and 1926)
Abilities and cultivation
Artificial-human cultivation
Velma begins as an artificial-human worker with a soul but almost no combat capacity. Her first shown cultivation breakthrough is Qi Training, after which collective staff updates place her at Nascent Soul and later evidence identifies her as a Heaven Immortal below peak. The intermediate Foundation, Golden Core, and Earth Immortal transitions are not individually narrated, and the narrative does not demonstrate a combat repertoire corresponding to her high realm. Her cultivation supports longevity, mobility, and work across dangerous cosmic institutions, but her established specialization remains intelligence and service rather than battle. (Chapters 4, 193, 1151, and 2215)
Regalia Bloom
Reaching Qi Training unlocks Velma's Regalia Bloom bloodline. Silver energy forms a washcloth that flies independently through the Midnight Manor, cleaning floors, walls, and other surfaces so quickly that a job spanning the property finishes within minutes. The manifestation directly amplifies the domestic and supervisory work that defined her at the time of awakening. No later chapter in the supplied narrative gives the washcloth a named offensive application or documents a further stage of Regalia Bloom, so its demonstrated mechanics remain rapid autonomous cleaning rather than generalized matter control. (Chapter 193)
Social investigation and information analysis
Velma gathers information by making conversation feel hospitable rather than adversarial. Tea, relationship questions, knowledge of customs, and a genuine appetite for personal stories encourage subjects to reveal details that a direct interrogation would miss. She retains those accounts, cross-references them, and organizes the results into binders or reports that expose political and military patterns. Temple training later strengthens her detective discipline. The method depends on access and informant reliability: Velma is exceptionally informed, not omniscient, and surveillance, secrecy agreements, misinformation, or isolation can restrict what she is able to confirm and share. (Chapters 283, 387–396, 945–946, and 1706–1710)
Publishing and long-range liaison work
As head of Midnight News, Velma combines her own reporting with institutional tools. The News building supports fast publication and recordkeeping, while its interview room can signal lies; neither feature supplies missing facts, so reporters still have to find sources and distinguish public stories from restricted staff intelligence. At the Humanoid Alliance, a Castle Tavern gives her a transportable point of Inn territory through which Lex can establish long-range contact. The tavern is assigned infrastructure rather than an innate power, but Velma's position and judgment turn it into a durable intelligence link even during the Inn's later isolation. (Chapters 395–396, 1926, 2246, and 2352)

Relationships
- Lex Williams: Lex names and assigns Velma, then revises his treatment of her after learning that she is a living person with a soul. He trusts her with the Inn's news operation and later relies on her as a universe-level intelligence source, while their teasing correspondence shows a friendship extending beyond formal employment.
- Gerard: Gerard and Velma are the Inn's original two workers and develop in parallel from narrow service roles into senior management. They share responsibility during Lex's absences and approach later cultivation thresholds together.
- Mary: Mary confirms that Velma has a soul and helps Lex understand that the workers are people rather than disposable interfaces. Velma later contributes intelligence outside Mary's immediate knowledge while continuing to rely on her coordination and system-level perspective.
- Humanoid Alliance: The Alliance trains and employs Velma as an information collector while treating her connection to the Midnight Inn as both an asset and a security risk. Velma honors sensitive restrictions without surrendering her loyalty to the Inn.
Items
Velma has no finalized associated notable-item inventory. The Castle Tavern she uses in Alliance territory is assigned Midnight Inn infrastructure and a communications post, not established as her personal possession.
