Mei builds and leads a cohesive independent army contracted to the Henali, concealing an ultra-orthodox High Elf technique that grants exceptional synergy with the World Tree. Once that secret is exposed, enemies target her during a war in which even Henali protection is unavailable; she expects capture or death but refuses to abandon the Lancers. Her private relationship with Paul, formed during a visit to the Inn meant to calm herself against a heart demon, gives Lex Williams a reason to intervene. Mei resists Dragon-Lex's pressure until he proves Paul is not a pretext, then chooses a practical compromise: she retains her command while accepting a mobile tavern connection, imposes strict security conditions, and immediately returns her soldiers to cleanup and readiness.
