Ezio

Ezio is a dangerous Crystal-race elder imprisoned in Valesco's highest-security system. Despite confinement, he sends for Lex, sponsors his access to Crystal laws, and projects a clone beyond his cell, demonstrating that official imprisonment limits his movement more reliably than it limits his influence.

Biography

Summoning Lex to Valesco

Ezio reaches beyond maximum security to invite Lex into a legal and political problem involving the Crystal race. He offers sponsorship under Crystal law, making himself useful while withholding the full scale of his identity and the prison's deterioration. The arrangement places Lex between an inmate who can circumvent ordinary restrictions and officials who need his cooperation but do not trust the prisoner directing events. (Chapters 679–684)

Clone, concealment, and institutional crisis

Ezio converses through a clone while his cell becomes effectively impenetrable, exposing how little control Valesco's guards truly retain. His condescension and selective disclosures aggravate Lord Belmont, and the meeting eventually spills into violence when Belmont turns on Lex. Ezio survives as the remote center of the crisis: still confined, still withholding knowledge, and still powerful enough that the prison must react to him rather than simply command him.
