Sonya is a dragonkin magic warrior and the disciplinary committee president at the Hero Academy. Her pursuit of a rule-breaking Kai LuForia becomes a rivalry, duel, and eventual romantic attachment, while her later appearance among his divinely empowered women confirms that she eventually enters godhood.

Biography

From disciplinary pursuit to Kai's household

Sonya begins by searching the academy for a late student who tricks his way past her. Once Janna identifies him as Kai, Sonya attacks with dragon claws, partly to enforce the rules and partly because his evasion wounded her pride; his overwhelming speed prevents her from landing a meaningful hit. She agrees to a date, then stands him up and instead challenges him during the festival tournament. Sonya wins the tournament as the academy's only Rank-7 magic warrior before Kai's companions arrive, but her full draconic assault cannot hurt him, forcing her to concede the gulf between an elite student and the hero. When Kai returns to the academy, Sonya admits that his irritating presence made her life more exciting and agrees to become his partner. Their relationship grows out of attraction and combat fascination, but its beginnings include Kai taking an unsolicited first kiss and repeatedly ignoring her attempts to resist his physical advances. Much later, Sonya appears among Kai's assembled women and explains that Cassie had concealed their divine essences; Kai recognizes that all of them have entered the realm of gods.
