Cornelia
Cornelia Obsidian is an Eridani pirate captain who becomes the helmsman of Kai LuForia's party and later commands a reconstituted pirate force of her own. Having lost the original Black Stone crew while searching for the legendary city of Pacifica, she brings the group practical knowledge of the Central Sea and a desire to explore rather than pillage. Her initial recruitment is compromised by Kai's hypnosis, but her later participation includes distinct tactical choices, effective combat, and an expressed wish to build a larger pirate organization.
Biography
The last Black Stone pirate
Cornelia meets Kai's party while they consider a long-unfinished job to find a lost city. She identifies herself as the former Black Stone captain and explains that her crew sought adventure and proof, not ancient power or plunder. Predatory pirates killed them after the group crossed the wrong rivals, leaving Cornelia to warn other inexperienced travelers away from the Central Sea that ended her expedition. (Chapter 243)
Kai confirms her story by reading her mind, then hypnotizes her because he is attracted to her; her immediate trust and acceptance are therefore coerced. Aboard Cthulhu's Ark, she nevertheless supplies expertise the party lacks. She has sailed since childhood, learns the advanced vessel's controls, and explains the truce among pirates, the Navy, and the leviathan, becoming the helmsman for a renewed search. (Chapters 243–244)
Pacifica and wider horizons
Cornelia steers through the Central Sea, chooses Navy-controlled docks to avoid provoking pirates, and supplies inland routes. Her confidence aboard ship contrasts with her screaming fear in a flying carriage and her worry during the leviathan attack. She still tries to catch Kai when he falls overboard and watches for his return, behaving as a concerned crew member rather than only a hired guide. (Chapters 244–248)
The expedition reaches Pacifica through an underwater wormhole, validating the belief for which the Black Stone crew died. Cornelia researches its library, gaining confirmation rather than the weapon sought by rival pirates. Travel through Kai's pocket dimension then lets her see Sarkylla, fulfilling her wish to visit another continent. Neither achievement restores her crew, but both convert an unfinished search into a wider life beyond Eridani. (Chapters 249–251)
Spirit war and a place in the party
Cornelia's integration does not erase the gap between her and Kai's protected companions. Hostile fog entrances her because Kai forgot to grant her their mental defense, forcing him to release her. The incident exposes her vulnerability to supernatural influence, yet she later votes to enter a demonic storm and accepts the resulting passage into the spirit world rather than withdraw from the expedition. (Chapters 268, 277–278)
During the spirit-orb campaign, Cornelia proves her value beyond the helm. Fighting beside Kyana and Nadya, she freezes her feet to skate among demons, drives a rapier into heads and hearts, and uses water spells to guide her movement. Their praise and her participation in the group's wager establish active membership despite the absence of a stated mana tier or rank. (Chapters 287–289)
Captain of a new pirate force
After capturing the Sweatii base, Cornelia considers staying to shape its pirates. Kai hypnotizes the survivors to obey her and proposes a fighter as deputy, but Sasha notes that strength is not administrative skill; Kai consequently lets Cornelia select her own second. She embraces a force meant to hunt predatory pirates and spread peace, restoring her dream of captaincy on an archipelago-wide scale. (Chapter 320)
Cornelia and Kai later have sex, but their relationship remains inseparable from his unremoved recruitment hypnosis. After she loses consciousness, he decides to impregnate her without the narration establishing her agreement; she is nevertheless shown afterward as happy about the pregnancy, her travels, and her command. Kai also gives her a Sarkylla key and an improved tattoo-stored ship, leaving her a locally based captain with cross-continental access and later custody of his earlier vessel. (Chapters 322–323, 329, 336, 488)
Appearance and personality
Cornelia wears a skull-marked pirate hat, an eyepatch over a healthy eye, a bluish shirt left open across her large chest, long boots, and no trousers. Her feet-on-table posture performs a captain's swagger, while her rapier completes the practical pirate image. The corpus does not state her hair color, eye color, height, or age. (Chapters 243, 287)
Adventurous and curious, Cornelia values discovery over plunder and becomes animated by unfamiliar ships and cultures. Practical seamanship tempers that excitement: she understands regional politics and knows when a threat exceeds her means. Heights, undead creatures, mental influence, and overwhelming enemies frighten her, yet she still enters the demonic storm, fights aggressively, and accepts command. Her anti-predatory ambitions are distinct, though hypnosis complicates the independence of her loyalty to Kai. (Chapters 243–250, 268, 277, 287, 311, 320)
Powers and abilities
Cornelia's abilities remain stable across the supplied chapters. The narrative does not confirm a mana tier, adventurer rank, divine stage, awakening, or persistent structural enhancement for her, so there is no separate power-progression sequence.
Seamanship and navigation
Cornelia's principal expertise comes from a lifetime at sea, beginning with childhood voyages alongside her father and continuing through command of the Black Stone pirates. She learns the runic and magical controls of Kai's advanced ship after instruction and then pilots it through the Central Sea and between islands with enough precision to dock discreetly and make use of wind and water conditions. She also knows the area's trade routes, pirate territories, naval arrangements, ore fields, and leviathan risk. Her skill is specialized rather than universal: flying travel unnerves her, and unfamiliar supernatural routes still depend on Kai's power. (Chapters 243–245, 323)
Rapier and water magic
In battle, Cornelia combines a thrusting rapier with water and ice magic. She freezes the surface beneath her feet and skates through groups of demons, using momentum and mobility to reach vulnerable heads and hearts while her free hand casts spells that help guide her movement. This combination lets her dispatch ordinary enemy soldiers efficiently and earns praise from experienced companions. The corpus does not name individual spells, quantify their range, or show her overcoming a demon lord or divine opponent, so her demonstrated ceiling remains below the setting's major supernatural threats. (Chapter 287)
Limits and support
Cornelia has no demonstrated innate defense against mind control or hostile supernatural environments. Kai must free her from trance-inducing fog after neglecting to include her in his mental protections, and he supplies protective barriers, underwater gills, transport, and evacuation when the party enters hazards beyond her power. These interventions let her contribute in extreme settings without becoming evidence of personal resistance or flight. Her greatest influence is therefore the combination of professional knowledge, disciplined movement, and command rather than raw destructive scale. (Chapters 249, 268, 277, 330)
Relationships
- Kai LuForia: Kai recruits Cornelia through telepathic hypnosis, teaches her to operate his vessel, brings her to Pacifica and other continents, and later creates the conditions for her to command a pirate force. They become sexual partners, and Cornelia is pleased about carrying his child, but the hypnosis compromises the relationship from its beginning and the text does not establish her consent to his decision to impregnate her. He later gives her independent transport and access to his pocket-connected family network. (Chapters 243–244, 249–250, 320, 322–323, 329)
- Kyana: Kyana is one of Cornelia's earliest companions in the new crew and later fights beside her for the eastern spirit orb. Cornelia observes Kyana's volatile but affectionate group dynamic, while Kyana recognizes her rapier-and-water style as a strong addition to the party. (Chapters 243–244, 287–289)
- Nadya: Nadya initially tests Cornelia's honesty and later travels and fights alongside her in the spirit world. Their shared battlefield experience helps move Cornelia from outsider to a participant in the women's plans and competitions. (Chapters 243, 287–289)
- The Black Stone pirates: Cornelia's original adventurous crew died after antagonizing more predatory pirates during the search for Pacifica. Their loss motivates her warning to Kai, gives emotional weight to finding the city, and shapes her enthusiasm for a later pirate organization aimed at suppressing raiders rather than imitating them. (Chapters 243–244, 320)
Items
- Cthulhu's Ark: Cornelia becomes the vessel's expert helmsman during Kai's Eridani expedition. A later conversation says Kai gave his earlier ship to her after making a replacement, establishing her continuing custody, though the narrative does not separately document the legal terms of ownership. (Chapters 243–244, 488)
- Improved unnamed ship: Kai gives Cornelia a second ship with more features than his primary vessel. It first appears as a toy, becomes a tattoo on her hand when accepted, and can be summoned or dismissed at will, giving her a personal command vessel for the new pirate force. (Chapter 329)
- Rapier: Cornelia carries an unnamed rapier and uses it for rapid thrusts against demons while supplementing the weapon with water and ice magic. The corpus does not provide an origin, enchantment, or distinct name for it. (Chapters 246, 287)
