Cthulhu's Ark
Cthulhu’s Ark is Kai’s expandable, heavily enchanted ocean-going ship. He names it immediately before the core party leaves Sarkylla for Eridani, borrowing the name from a sea-associated fictional monster he remembers from Earth. The vessel serves as transport, mobile defense, and evacuation platform during the party’s first intercontinental campaign. (Chapter 210)
History
Launch and naming
At Ashenfall’s port, Kai produces a miniature boat, throws it into the water, and lets it expand into a full-sized ship larger than the surrounding vessels. He boards with Gwen, Amaya, Kyana, Sasha, and Nadya, raises the anchor through his power, and names it Cthulhu’s Ark despite having no prior experience as a captain. The first crossing immediately exposes the crew to violent storms and forces Kai to learn practical sailing while underway. (Chapters 210–211)
Open-ocean ordeal
A giant starfish drags the ship underwater when Kai forgets to activate its defenses. After he frees the hull, he turns those systems on; they kill weaker sea monsters during the following days and can be set to minor defense, full protection, or lethal retaliation. Kai also enables a stabilization feature that makes the deck feel like land and prevents seasickness, plus an inventory system that collects slain monsters. Stronger creatures can still penetrate lower settings or throw the ship off course. (Chapters 211–214)
Eridani operations
The Ark shrinks back into Kai’s inventory after docking, then expands again when he evacuates Seaweed’s group after their own vessel is destroyed. Its barrier makes cannon fire bounce away, autopilot follows a set course, and its speed turns a trip expected to take three days into roughly five hours. These operations confirm that the ship remains Kai’s private vessel even when it carries rescued allies. No later destruction or transfer is recorded. (Chapters 215, 220–223)
Abilities and properties
The Ark changes between handheld and full ship size, enters Kai’s inventory, follows courses on autopilot, and travels much faster than ordinary ships. Layered defenses range from passive protection to lethal counterattack; an invisible barrier repels cannon fire, stabilization reduces motion sickness, and onboard inventory collects defeated monsters. Its systems require activation and appropriate settings. Powerful attackers can exceed weaker defense modes, rough seas can alter the course, and the vessel still benefits from crew intervention during boarding actions. (Chapters 210–214, 220–223)
