Suibian

Suibian is Wei WuXian's spirit sword, notable for sealing itself after he ceased using it and for the evidence it later provides about the transfer of his golden core.

History

Youthful cultivation

Wei WuXian carries Suibian while studying at the Cloud Recesses. When Lan WangJi mistakes its name for an evasive answer, Wei WuXian shows him the two characters carved into the sheath and confirms that “Suibian” is the sword's actual name. Its quality and spirit are already evident to Lan WangJi. (Chapter 16)

Sealed at Koi Tower

After Wei WuXian's death, LanlingJin cultivators collect Suibian as a battle trophy and keep it in Jin GuangYao's hidden room. The sword has sealed itself so that others cannot draw it, but it responds to Wei WuXian's paper incarnation and fights Hensheng. Lan WangJi later verifies that it remains sealed to him. (Chapters 50 and 63)

Proof of the golden-core transfer

Lan WangJi and then Wen Ning carry Suibian temporarily during the second Burial Mound crisis. At Lotus Pier, Wen Ning orders Jiang Cheng to draw it. The blade opens for Jiang Cheng because the golden core within him originally belonged to Wei WuXian, exposing the truth of the transfer. Wen Ning then leaves the sword in Jiang Cheng's hands. Abilities and properties

• Suibian is a high-quality spiritual sword capable of responding to Wei WuXian even when he occupies a paper body. (Chapters 16 and 50)
• It seals itself against ordinary wielders after Wei WuXian's death. (Chapters 63 and 88)
• It recognizes the spiritual energy of Wei WuXian's transferred golden core, allowing Jiang Cheng to unsheathe it. (Chapters 88–89)
