Chenqing

Chenqing is Wei WuXian's black ghost flute, a spiritual tool whose music is closely identified with the YiLing Patriarch's control of corpses and resentful energy.

History

The YiLing Patriarch

Chenqing is already famous across the cultivation world by the time Wei WuXian returns to life. In his first life, he carries the flute at his waist and uses it during confrontations at Koi Tower, Qiongqi Path, and Nightless City. Its recognizable black body and crimson tassel make the instrument's appearance enough to alarm cultivators who remember his wartime power. (Chapters 19, 69–78)

Loss and return

After Wei WuXian's death, Jiang Cheng takes Chenqing rather than surrendering it to Jin GuangYao. He later brings it to Guanyin Temple, where Lan SiZhui briefly handles it before returning it to Wei WuXian. Jiang Cheng confirms that the flute was Wei WuXian's in the first place, ending his custody of it without asserting ownership. (Chapters 110, 118)

Abilities and properties

• Chenqing carries flute music through which Wei WuXian directs or restrains fierce corpses. (Chapters 72, 75–78)
• Its notes can summon corpses from the earth and coordinate with Lan WangJi's musical cultivation. (Chapters 75, 78)
• The flute is black and decorated with a bright red tassel. (Chapters 72, 77, 119)
• Seeing Chenqing helps Lan SiZhui recover memories associated with his childhood at Burial Mound. (Chapter 111)
