Luo QingYang

Luo QingYang, commonly called MianMian, is a cultivator formerly associated with the LanlingJin Sect. After surviving the cave of the Xuanwu of Slaughter, she later rejects her sect's attacks on Wei WuXian and leaves to cultivate independently.

Biography

The Xuanwu cave

During the QishanWen expedition, Wang LingJiao selects MianMian to be branded on the face. Wei WuXian intervenes and receives the brand instead, while Lan WangJi helps resist the Wen cultivators. MianMian's medicinal perfume sachet later provides herbs used to treat Lan WangJi's injury inside the cave. (Chapters 52–54)

Breaking with the sects

At a gathering in Koi Tower, MianMian challenges the crowd's unsupported claims against Wei WuXian and rejects the suggestion that gratitude for her rescue invalidates her judgment. When her objections are mocked, she removes her sect robe and leaves, while Lan WangJi is the only prominent cultivator to acknowledge her departure. (Chapter 73)

Life as a rogue cultivator

Years later, Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi meet Luo QingYang travelling with her husband and daughter. She continues to night-hunt as a rogue cultivator, and the family responds without prejudice when they recognize Wei WuXian. (Chapters 112–113)

Appearance and personality

As a young cultivator, MianMian is described as having a graceful figure, a soft voice, and a medicinal perfume sachet. She is frightened when threatened in the Xuanwu cave but later speaks firmly against an entire hall and accepts the cost of leaving her sect. (Chapters 52–53, 73)

Abilities and cultivation

Luo QingYang is a trained sword cultivator and night-hunter who eventually practices outside the protection of a great sect. The corpus gives no named personal technique, but it establishes practical field knowledge, medical preparation, and enough independence to continue cultivation as a rogue.

Sword cultivation and night-hunting

She carries a sword during the Qishan indoctrination and later travels with her family while taking night-hunting work. Leaving LanlingJin costs institutional support, access, and status, but does not remove the training she already possesses. Her later life demonstrates that cultivation can serve local communities without a sect office. (Chapters 52–55, 73, and 112)

Medicinal sachets and field preparation

Luo QingYang prepares sachets containing aromatic medicinal plants. Their scent repels insects in the Xuanwu cave, and the contents can be repurposed as herbs when the trapped cultivators need treatment. The sachets are not a supernatural weapon; their importance lies in preparedness and the ability to turn a personal item into shared survival equipment. (Chapters 52–54)

Her strongest recurring capability is moral independence. She evaluates testimony, publicly rejects a sect position she considers dishonest, and accepts the practical consequences. That judgment cannot overpower a coalition, but it prevents institutional pressure from dictating what she says she witnessed.

Relationships

• Wei WuXian: He protects her from Wang LingJiao's branding iron; she later defends him against claims she considers unsupported.
• Lan WangJi: He helps resist the Wen forces in the cave and later acknowledges her principled departure from the sect gathering.
• Jin ZiXun: A LanlingJin cultivator who dismisses her defense of Wei WuXian as personal gratitude rather than reasoned judgment.
