Moira
Moira is a name used by two distinct women in the corpus: a young lizardfolk girl who handles her father's wholesale stall, and a half-Elven instructor from Lared Capital Academy who studies Runesmithing under Karl. The later instructor is accompanied by her long-term research partner and husband Mash; nothing links her identity to the earlier merchant's daughter.
Biography
A merchant's daughter keeps the stall running
The first Moira appears while her father is sleeping off the previous night's drinking. She has already completed a trade with Karl's group and accurately reports the two groups of items received when a guard checks on the transaction. Her quick theft of the guard's cookie and delight in a pair of skull-decorated brass knuckles make the scene playful, but her presence also keeps the family business operating despite her father's absence. No later scene securely identifies this lizardfolk child by name, so her subsequent work and status remain unknown. (Chapter 751)
An established teacher accepts the discipline of starting again
The second Moira arrives as the self-appointed leader of four Lared academy teachers seeking trade skills. Although she has taught runic studies and worked with Mash for more than a century, she chooses Runesmithing and discovers that her theoretical notation contains bad stroke order, missing marks, and unintended meanings. Karl makes her test the faulty construction instead of accepting correction on authority alone; the humiliating result breaks through her pride and gives her a reason to follow the System-granted language and his practical instruction. From there she studies compound runes, copies Remi's notes, experiments with risky divine phrases, and finishes increasingly difficult templates rather than abandoning the apprenticeship when it proves remedial. (Chapters 808–827)
Her questions shift from defensiveness to genuine craft analysis. She studies why Dana's new golem is not encoded in a bracer, reports that the teachers' Royal-rank creations bond immediately to their makers, and helps identify why otherwise successful products cannot be sold. She also worries when Karl plans to attack an Overlord monster pack, showing that she still evaluates danger from an academy rather than Darklight Host perspective. By the end of the visit she has completed Karl's latest challenge but chooses to accompany a bulk order home as security instead of taking Hawk's faster transport, linking her new practical knowledge to her existing duty to Lared. (Chapters 828–855)
Appearance and personality
The merchant's daughter is a small lizardfolk girl with an extendable tongue fast enough to steal a cookie. The text gives no further reliable physical detail. She is cheerful, comfortable negotiating with guards, and attracted to unusual-looking merchandise. (Chapter 751)
The instructor is a half-Elven woman with long blonde hair and extended pointed ears. She initially carries the pride of an experienced teacher and reacts with disbelief when Karl challenges her runes, but she is willing to test the dispute and continue after being proven wrong. Her later curiosity, laughter at a failed random inscription, concern for the guild's dangerous plans, and alarm at Rae's invisibility show a practical, expressive temperament rather than fixed academic arrogance. (Chapters 808–844)
Abilities and class
No class or combat ability is established for the merchant's daughter. Her extendable tongue is a demonstrated lizardfolk trait, but its range, combat value, and relationship to a class are not explained. (Chapter 751)
The instructor begins with runic scholarship but no trade skill, then receives Runesmithing from Karl. The skill supplies knowledge of the runic language, while successful practice still requires exact stroke order, angle, grammar, and separation of complete concepts. Compound enchantments become physically large because each effect and modifier must remain grammatically distinct; shortcut phrases can produce powerful results, nothing at all, or joke effects outside the creator's intent. Moira learns through repeated inscription and template work, but the corpus does not identify a signature item she designed alone. (Chapters 808–827)
Her clearest demonstrated ceiling is Royal rank during the visit. Even with Monarch-rank Mana Jade, she and the other teachers cannot raise their creations above Royal rank, and the resulting crafts bind to their creators on completion. That limit makes the objects useful training aids but poor merchandise. Her latest work shows improved control and persistence, not a documented rank advancement or mastery equal to Karl's Artifact-grade production. (Chapters 841 and 855)
Relationships
- Karl: Moira accepts Karl as her Runesmithing teacher despite arriving as an established professor. His practical corrections humble her, then give her a path from flawed notation to functioning compound templates. (Chapters 808–855)
- Mash: Moira's husband and research partner of more than a century studies beside her. Their shared experiments expose both to the risks and humor of imprecise runes. (Chapters 808–827 and 844)
- Remi: Remi's compound-rune notes become assigned study material while Karl leaves to defend Drodh, allowing Moira's training to continue through a crisis. (Chapter 821)
- Dana: Dana's bracers and upgraded golem become a case study that teaches Moira to distinguish an item's enchantment from a separate support-class effect. (Chapters 827–828)
- Rae: Rae demonstrates a security problem the professors had not considered: an invisible, incorporeal intruder whom ordinary perception cannot detect. (Chapter 844)
Items
Neither Moira has a scoped catalog item. The lizardfolk child briefly handles skull-decorated brass knuckles as store inventory, while the instructor creates an unnamed Royal-rank item that bonds to her and therefore cannot be sold; the corpus does not provide a stable name or later custody history for either object. (Chapters 751 and 841)
