Superbia

Superbia, also called Pride, is an autonomous Seven Sins grimoire that consumes species, stores their genetic information, and recombines their innate traits in a constantly changing predatory body. It attacks Meltor's high-elf convoy to consume Ellenoa, survives its first defeat, and later returns at a higher seal before its material-world control body is annihilated.

Biography

Academy, Magic Contest, and National Service

Superbia intercepts the convoy carrying Ellenoa during Theodore Miller's early national service, annihilating the eight-war-magician formation led by Herman and then the rearguard escorts before overtaking the last gust wagon. It arrives without a host because it is an autonomous-maneuver grimoire, and it tells Gluttony that its target is the high elf rather than Theodore. At the fourth seal, Superbia combines up to five stolen species traits, adapts its form after observing attacks, and regenerates from repeated destruction. Theodore's refusal to surrender Ellenoa provokes a battle in which Alfred Bellontes's Overwrite and Transmission fragment helps him survive and destroy Superbia's head, but neither that blow nor Veronica's stronger fire kills it. Superbia escapes after its regeneration is overwhelmed, leaving the convoy devastated and Theodore unconscious for three weeks. (Chapters 74–80)

Superbia later reappears in the Pirate Archipelago at the fifth seal and targets Aquilo, asking the sea dragon to join its pursuit of a perfect creature by being consumed. It adapts marine bodies and injuries well enough to outfight Aquilo in her own environment, while Theodore and Randolph Clovis intervene because allowing Pride to consume a dragon could advance it toward the sixth stage. Superbia again flees when Theodore summons Fafnir, prioritizing survival as necessary to its ambition, but Fafnir's breath erases every cell of the projected body and exhausts its accumulated energy. Gluttony confirms total destruction of that material manifestation while explaining that the Seven Sins' true bodies exist outside the lower dimension; Superbia can therefore reappear eventually, but not for at least a thousand years. Appearance and personality

Superbia's visible body is a mutable chimera rather than a fixed organism. At the convoy it initially has eight spider-like legs, mixed leather and carapace, a scorpion tail that scatters lightning, several claws, an ogre's arm, minotaur horns, wyvern wings, and scales. Its smooth head forms a mouth only when it answers Gluttony, and later forms six pairs of compound eyes. Every description is provisional because it replaces limbs, coverings, senses, and entire body plans according to the prey or countermeasure required. (Chapters 74–78)

Pride is arrogant, contemptuous, and explicitly species-focused. It calls humans inferior monkeys, derides Gluttony's attachment to them, and regards itself as the apex of the food chain. Yet its intelligence is practical rather than blinded by pride: it studies Alfred's timing, abandons human-like joints to disrupt his predictions, develops heat resistance and anti-illusion sight after seeing Theodore's methods, and flees both Veronica and Fafnir when survival becomes impossible. Its goal of completing the perfect living creature makes survival more important than performative courage. (Chapters 75–78 and 148–152)

Magic, abilities, and martial skills

Genetic collection

Gluttony identifies Superbia as a species usurper specialist that collects creatures in the way Gluttony collects magical texts. Consuming one sample lets Pride store a species' genetic information and reproduce innate traits without copying only that individual's current performance. Demonstrated examples include troll-like regeneration, ogre strength, centaur movement, storm-locust wings, spriggan acceleration, heat-resistant hides, a king slime's distributed body, kraken tentacles, and marine poisons. The source does not give a complete inventory of consumed species or explain the exact process by which a sample is eaten and cataloged. (Chapters 75–78 and 148–150)

Combination and counters

At the fourth seal, Superbia can combine five traits at once. It uses different combinations for speed, strength, perception, elemental resistance, and regeneration, rebuilding itself during combat after identifying an opponent's pattern. This versatility is not omniscience: unfamiliar attacks can injure or destroy its current form, Alfred exploits the predictability of human-like movement, and Theodore's layered illusion creates an opening before Pride finishes analyzing it. Once a method is exposed, however, Superbia can often produce a creature's trait that neutralizes it, forcing opponents to seek overwhelming destruction rather than repeat ordinary attacks. Regeneration and material manifestation

Superbia restores destroyed heads, organs, and bodies at a speed closer to immortality than ordinary regeneration. The ability still consumes stored energy and can be defeated when destruction outpaces restoration and leaves no surviving cell. Veronica's Hell Fire forces escape but does not erase the fourth-stage body; Fafnir's concentrated breath later splits and burns the fifth-stage manifestation until its cellular energy is exhausted. Gluttony then distinguishes that control body from the Seven Sins' extra-dimensional existence, so “total destruction” applies to Superbia's manifestation in this world rather than proof that the grimoire can never exist again. Limits and progression

Seal release returns Superbia toward its original state. Its fifth-stage form is estimated able to fight Veronica on roughly equal terms and overpower Aquilo even at sea; Gluttony warns that a sixth-stage Pride could kill an ancient dragon and potentially devastate the continent. Progression appears tied to what it consumes, but the specific meal that released its fifth seal is unknown. Its transformations also remain limited to living-species qualities, a boundary Gluttony mocks as an inability to surpass species rather than genuine perfection. (Chapters 75, 148–149, and 152)

• Gluttony: The two Seven Sins recognize and openly despise each other. Superbia mocks Gluttony's dependence on humans, while Gluttony calls Pride a mass of flesh and a chimera limited to species. Gluttony's information and forced Overwrite allow Theodore to resist Superbia, and its later explanation establishes the difference between Pride's destroyed control body and its external existence. • Theodore Miller: Superbia initially dismisses Theodore as irrelevant but tries to kill him when he protects Ellenoa. His resistance wounds its pride and creates a lasting hostility. At the Pirate Archipelago, Theodore chooses another confrontation before Pride can become stronger, coordinating with Aquilo, Randolph, and a summoned Fafnir to destroy its material manifestation. Items

Superbia has no separately cataloged named item. Its claws, shells, wings, tails, sensory organs, and poisons are biological traits reconstructed by its species-usurpation function rather than equipment. The material body itself is a lower-dimensional control unit of the grimoire, not a carried artifact, and no item is recovered after Fafnir erases it. (Chapters 74–78 and 148–152)
