Gibra
Gibra is the Information Guild's Sipoto branch chief, a back-alley broker who guides Theodore Miller through Kargas's underground auctions. His calculated decision to protect Theodore's identity ultimately brings retaliation from the Orcus Company.
Biography
Elvenheim, Kargas, and the Pirate Archipelago
Gibra refuses Theodore's first commission because the coming auction makes private purchases impractical, then changes course when Theodore proves he has legitimate entry. He explains the auction network, hires agents, supplies intelligence, and warns Theodore about Orcus without pretending that his guild can oppose it directly. When Theodore's duel bid brings greater danger than the contract covers, Gibra remains nearby and joins the celebration after Randolph wins, demonstrating loyalty within limits rather than self-sacrifice without purpose. (Chapters 125–135)
After Theodore leaves, Gibra decides that selling his identity to Andras would endanger Kargas and sacrifice long-term favor for short-term gold. He kills his subordinate Akan because he believes Akan will not resist the bounty. The choice is cold and self-interested, but also nationally calculated: Gibra identifies himself as a gutter rat who still belongs to Kargas. (Chapter 135)
Eastern Legacies, Quattro, and the Soldun Civil War
Gibra traces Theodore to Soldun and sends a warning that the Orcus Company is moving east. Before Theodore can meet him, Orcus captures him; Theodore later identifies Gibra's dismantled body by its unusual size, and Hyde admits that he deliberately made the broker's death painful. Gibra's warning reaches Theodore, but he does not survive to receive the future return he expected on his investment. (Chapters 166–170)
Appearance and personality
Gibra is normally an intimidating man more than two meters tall, with a rough face and unusually large build. He can disguise himself as an ordinary middle-aged man. He is candid about price, risk, and ulterior motives, enjoys back-alley theater, and keeps agreements more reliably than his profession suggests; his morality remains harsh, as shown by Akan's preemptive murder. (Chapters 125–135)
Magic, abilities, and martial skills
Gibra is an aura user capable of Sound Transmission, rapid dagger work, disguise, heavy drinking without ordinary aftereffects, and covert information operations. He kills Akan before the man notices the strike and commands significant fear in Sipoto, but is explicitly below master-level fighters such as Randolph and the Orcus Black Knight. His greatest capability is organizational intelligence rather than open combat. (Chapters 125–135)
Relationships
- Theodore Miller: Theodore is initially Gibra's employer and later a long-term political investment. Gibra supplies auction access, warnings, and discretion; Theodore comes to value his honesty but arrives too late to save him. (Chapters 125–135 and 166–170)
- Hyde: Hyde follows Theodore's trail through Gibra, tortures him, and leaves his body mutilated. Their interaction is defined entirely by Hyde's interrogation and murder. (Chapters 168–170)
- Randolph Clovis: Gibra underestimates Randolph at first, then witnesses him defeat the Orcus death knight. Randolph's victory protects Theodore and completes the dangerous commission around which Gibra has remained. (Chapters 131–135)
Items
Gibra has no permanent named inventory item required by the supplied link manifest. He uses a black dagger, disguises, maps, and guild information, but none receives a stable named artifact identity. (Chapters 125–135)
