Warp Demolator Scanner

The Warp Demolator Scanner is a machine Gustav builds to detect lingering Warp Demolator energy and analyze the phenomenon's movements. Its readings establish that consumed worlds are transported rather than destroyed and point toward the Stagnant Siterus Void.

History

Construction and remote deployment

Gustav completes the device as preparation for his search for Planet Humbad. It is designed to operate only from suitable points in space, scan for residual Warp Demolator energy, and remain deployed under protection while gathering data. Because the anomaly is unpredictable and stealthy, the machine is a long-term observation instrument rather than an instant locator. (Chapter 1095)

Before separating from Endric, Gustav instructs him to retrieve the remote machine after its observation period. Endric crosses seventeen galaxies and recovers only a head-sized portion. The chip and much of the body are missing, even though Gustav deliberately designed them to resist the Warp Demolator and to escape if swallowed. That design lets him conclude that a person, not the anomaly alone, dismantled it. (Chapters 1359–1361)

Stolen data and the Humbad conclusion

Footage preserved by the Sacred Jewel reveals Gustav's clone taking the machine apart and removing the chip. The clone wants the Warp Demolator data as part of assuming Gustav's life. After the clone crisis and Scientist Zil's capture, Gustav recovers the hidden dataset and has it transferred into readable form. (Chapters 1362, 1416–1418)

The restored analysis shows the Warp Demolator swallowing stars and other orbital bodies, identifies a spatial signature indicating transport rather than destruction, and outputs “Stagnant Siterus Void #792” as the reappearance destination. The Void does not exist in Gustav's present mapping, creating the future-location problem that drives his later route. (Chapters 1420–1421)

• Is engineered to resist the anomaly, including a chip designed to escape if the machine is swallowed. (Chapter 1361)
• Records visual and signature data sufficient to distinguish spatial transport from destruction and estimate a reappearance destination. (Chapter 1421)
• Does not give a simple present-day path to Planet Humbad; its result points to a Stagnant Siterus Void that Gustav cannot locate in the current universe. (Chapter 1421)
• Can be physically dismantled by an intelligent actor despite its anomaly-resistant design. (Chapters 1361–1362)
