Chad Buruku

Chad Buruku is a powerful MBO cadet whose rivalry with Gustav mixes genuine competitiveness with opportunism.

Biography

Special-class rivalry

Chad meets Gustav Oslov soon after the new cadets enter camp and dismisses the recognition Gustav and his friends have received. He predicts Gustav will fail to reach the top five, treating rank as proof of personal worth until Aildris rebukes him. Chad nevertheless proves his own ability during training: he creates giant blood constructs that defend large sections with little direct effort. His strength sustains his pride, but Gustav's rise repeatedly invalidates his attempts to define the newcomer as undeserving. (Chapters 366–481)

The bounty on Gustav

When the MBO announces a large bounty while Gustav is still only a suspect, Chad declares that he will capture him for the money. The rest of the team warns him against reducing a friend and officer to a payday, but Chad insists that sentiment has no place in the job. After learning that Miss Aimee trained Gustav, he abruptly tries to present himself as a friend so he can join the trusted group, and Angy refuses him. The exchange leaves Chad alive within the MBO, but exposes how quickly his rivalry bends toward self-interest when status or access changes. (Chapters 763–766)

Appearance and personality

Chad is a slightly built young man with light-blond hair. He is boastful, competitive, dismissive of peers he considers overrated, and shameless when an opportunity appears. At the same time, his confidence rests on substantial combat skill rather than empty talk. (Chapters 366 and 481; Chapters 763–766)

Bloodlines and abilities

Chad's bloodline creates gigantic creatures made of blood. During a defensive trial, two constructs wield massive club-like blood weapons and intercept attacks across separate sections while Chad remains seated. The feat demonstrates autonomous or remotely directed area defense, but the corpus does not state the constructs' maximum number, duration, or resilience. (Chapter 481)
