Keeping the business moving

When Gustav Oslov returns, Braun reports pending restaurant requests and knows which orders remain in the system and whether the storehouse can fill them. His reliable administrative work lets Gustav assess the business quickly instead of reconstructing operations after every absence. (Chapter 300)

Refusing the extortion demand

Men confront Braun and demand their share of the previous month's sales. He refuses to acknowledge the claim even when they tell him to stop pretending, placing himself between the business and a protection scheme.
