Samantha

Samantha is a cheerful water conjurer whose Dire Tombs expedition ends in survival, disability, and the loss of most of her party.

Biography

Recorded appearances

Samantha joins the Dire Tombs party as an A-class, dark-yellow-core water conjurer and quickly tries to befriend the quieter Jasmine Flamesworth. She supports the party with barriers and water magic as the dungeon's danger escalates, but the Elderwood Guardian throws her from Arthur Leywin and leaves her buried near the battle. Elijah's metal shelter keeps her alive, though her legs are catastrophically injured and she is described afterward as unable to use them. Despite the pain, she returns the recovered guardian drops to Arthur before being taken for treatment. The corpus does not document a later recovery. (Chapters 32–37)

Appearance and personality

Samantha is a short woman in her mid-twenties with wavy blond hair, large blue-gray eyes, and a lively, flirtatious confidence. Her talkative warmth contrasts with Jasmine's reserve and gradually draws a friendlier response from her. (Chapters 32–36)

Relationships

  • Jasmine Flamesworth: Samantha repeatedly tries to include Jasmine in conversation, and the reserved adventurer warms to her before helping carry her out of the dungeon. (Chapters 32–36)
  • Arthur Leywin: Knowing him as Note, Samantha accepts his protection and battlefield direction. After the fight, she hands him the Elderwood Guardian's recovered core and drops. (Chapters 32–36)
  • Elijah: Elijah shields Samantha beneath metal during the guardian's final attack, allowing her to survive the collapse. (Chapters 34–36)

Mana, aether, and abilities

Samantha is a water-specialist conjurer at the dark-yellow core stage. She forms water barriers and contributes ranged support, but large spells drain her quickly and the Elderwood Guardian overwhelms the party. She demonstrates no aether ability. (Chapters 32–36)

Items

  • Wand: Samantha casts through a wand and replaces its gem with one recovered from Oliver. The replacement is practical salvage, not a separately named relic. (Chapter 33)
  • Elderwood Guardian core: Samantha briefly carries the recovered core and other drops before returning them to Arthur. She is custodian in the escape, not the item's owner or beneficiary. (Chapter 36)
