Biography

Recorded appearances

Novis leads Clan Avignis and represents the phoenix race among the Great Eight. He supports Arthur's recognition as a new asuran lord, then welcomes him publicly to Featherwalk Aerie so he can experience Epheotan society beyond danger and council politics. Novis also explores alliance-building through clan marriage, reacts uneasily to Chul's hidden phoenix heritage, and later joins the other great lords in subduing Khaernos before participating in the world's final political realignment. Appearance and personality

Novis has dusky skin, smoky orange hair tied in a bun, and gray eyes. He wears a flowing black robe embroidered with flame-like thread. Warm, broad-grinned hospitality coexists with political calculation, caution, and visible anxiety when events threaten clan interests. (Chapters 496 and 507)

Relationships

He is Naesia's father and Clan Avignis's lord. With Arthur, he acts as both welcoming ally and strategic clan leader; with Chul, his initial interest is complicated by the revelation that the clanless phoenix has been adopted into Clan Leywin. (Chapters 507–508)

Mana, aether, and abilities

Novis uses phoenix fire in combat, recalls several spinning fiery hooked weapons, flies, and heals cuts on his arms by burning them closed. These are mana-based phoenix abilities; the supplied scenes do not establish a personal aether art. (Chapter 518)
