Elver

Biography

A hostile academy peer

Elver enters Warrior's Paradise as a green-haired student who repeatedly insults Shang, assuming that the younger warrior's advanced body came from noble wealth rather than hardship. His hostility grows out of insecurity: Elver comes from a poor farming family, trained without money or private teachers, and lived with hunger and fear that beasts would kill his relatives. After witnessing Shang's violent confrontation with other students and recognizing familiar self-hatred, Elver reconsiders his prejudice, explains his jealousy, and offers a direct apology that Shang accepts. (Chapters 98 and 147–148)

The apology does not erase Elver's temper or class resentment. When Mattheo challenges his assumption that wealthy students never suffer, Elver angrily contrasts the danger faced by his own family with Mattheo's controlled life, then ends the exchange by invoking the family he has lost. The conflict exposes both the source of Elver's aggression and his capacity to revise a judgment once confronted with evidence, turning his relationship with Shang from bullying into wary respect. (Chapters 147–148)

Recognition in the wider warrior world

As a young General Stage hunter, Elver serves as the Runner in Sarah's team, using speed and scouting to draw prey toward Astor's decisive blows. His poverty still affects his risk tolerance: he endangers himself to retrieve proof worth four hundred gold, and Sarah destroys it so the team will not reward reckless behavior. Although furious, Elver continues the hunt professionally; after the Poison Adept incident, he readily accepts Soran's secrecy contract because its compensation gives him more than a year free to train. (Chapters 251–260)

Centuries later, Elver has created the incomplete Diamond Body Stage and becomes the publicly acknowledged strongest pure warrior, winning Star City's tournament after a difficult fight against an Impose Stage opponent three levels below him. Shang's return confronts him with both the old world's last surviving peer and the warrior blamed for King Storm's death. Elver identifies Shang despite political pressure to remain silent, then accepts that his own damaged body cannot reach the future he imagines. He redirects his ambition toward refining the Diamond Body into a foundation for future Barbarians, while the Warrior's Guild in Star City later operates under his leadership. (Chapters 674–682 and 694)

Appearance and personality

Elver is initially a relatively small young man with long green hair. He carries himself in ornate-looking clothing and with an arrogant smile, deliberately projecting the image of wealth that he lacks; as a hunter he instead wears the Hunting Guild's practical black leather armor and carries two long rapiers. He is proud, volatile, and deeply sensitive to poverty and lost family, but he can apologize sincerely, follow team discipline under pressure, and ultimately accept a research legacy that will benefit successors more than himself. (Chapters 98, 147–148, 251, and 682)

Abilities and progression

Elver's early specialty is the Runner role. His Wind Affinity lets him notice disruptions in ambient Wind Mana and changes caused by poison or corrosive gas, while his paired rapiers supply fast, low-commitment threats. Against beasts, he attacks vulnerable eyes and manipulates attention rather than attempting heavy damage; this creates openings for a Buster but leaves him dependent on teammates against armored targets. His willingness to scout also becomes a liability when financial pressure pushes him to take risks beyond the team's plan. (Chapters 251 and 254–255)

By the world tournament, Elver possesses an incomplete Diamond Body and enough physical power and experience to defeat ordinary Mages below his level, but his victory over a much lower-level Impose Stage warrior is exhausting. The Diamond Body is only a prototype Fifth Realm: its Mana control is flawed, it lacks a Beast Core and suitable pathways, and Elver believes the procedure has permanently ruined his own body for further advancement. As its creator, he can nevertheless outline improvements—a Beast Core, revised Mana Pathways, and techniques that trade control for greater force—and commits his remaining career to producing a stronger Barbarian path. (Chapters 674–682)

Relationships

  • Shang: Elver moves from envious hostility to apology and cautious fellowship, later recognizing Shang immediately after centuries apart. Their reunion mixes fear, anger, pity, curiosity, and the lonely recognition that both remember the vanished world of their youth. (Chapters 98, 147, 251, and 674–677)
  • Sarah: Sarah leads Elver's hunting team and values his life more than the money he risks it to earn. Elver experiences her destruction of his evidence as contempt for his sacrifice, producing their sharpest conflict even though he continues to obey her in the dangerous Caves. (Chapters 251–256)
  • Astor: Astor is Elver's teammate and frequent mediator. He corrects Elver's careless judgments at the academy, later encourages his successes, and helps calm him after the dispute with Sarah. (Chapters 98 and 251–255)
  • Oliver: Elver and Oliver are veteran representatives of different emerging physical paths. Both recognize Shang during the tournament and reject the official claim that he is merely a disguised Mage. (Chapters 675–682)
