Frederik Kolbenheim

Frederik Kolbenheim is a wind-controlling Awakened whose first encounters with Michael Fang expose him as privileged, jealous, and unable to accept defeat. Repeated losses make him train seriously, but the destruction of his territory and crippling of his father strip away the security on which his pride depended. By accepting Michael's Link of Loyalty and specializing his Soultraits around Aeroan, Frederik rebuilds himself as a disciplined Super Awakened, one of the Untamed forces' leaders, and a devoted husband and father.

Biography

War Rune Awakening and the First Territory

Frederik enters the story as the Kolbenheim family's third son, a new Lord with a three-star Soultrait and a territory positioned to profit from rare ocean resources. He and his childhood fiancée Jacqueline are notorious as the “Barbaric Couple,” whose jealous quarrels damage property and careers. In the House of Witchery, their armed argument nearly impales a child after Frederik knocks Jacqueline off balance. When Michael intervenes, Frederik focuses first on the insult and the destruction of her Artifact rather than their responsibility for the danger. (Chapters 27–29)

Anger drives Frederik to attack Michael with crescent wind blades and wind spears in the crowded shop. Michael defeats him despite having awakened only days earlier, forcing Frederik to confront a gap that family resources and public status cannot explain away. He introduces himself by rank and lineage, while Michael mocks the performance and refuses to be intimidated. Frederik leaves under his head butler's supervision with his pride injured, establishing a rivalry rooted less in hatred than in his inability to accept that an unaffiliated beginner has outperformed him. Saphirelake Admission and EmeraldLeaf Contact

At Saphirelake's aptitude assessment, Frederik again treats Michael as the measure of his own worth. Aeroan lets him maintain a zone of wind blades and faster one-directional spears, including expensive invisible attacks, but his Tierless energy reserve cannot sustain the nourished Soultrait. Michael breaks through and wins; Frederik attacks after the referee's decision and is stopped violently. The defeat exposes both real talent and the emotional indiscipline that keeps turning a competitive opportunity into public humiliation. (Chapters 112–117)

Silverian Schild's Limit Breaker Course gives the rivalry a healthier structure. Frederik, Jacqueline, Kaleb, and Michael endure the same punishing regimen, spar during the journey to Kelta, and gradually behave more like companions than enemies. Frederik's control improves, but his wish to surpass Michael remains obsessive. Rather than abandon training, he requests the fuller Wind Sage's Sacred Body inheritance from his father, including its mind- and soul-refinement components. The Lord Rift and Daniel’s Loss

By the voyage's end Frederik has reached Tier 1 and expects another decisive rematch. Losses to Michael and Zeke instead expose new limitations: mental attacks can bypass Aeroan entirely, and pride makes him lash out after a fight is already over. Michael physically interrupts his confrontation with Zeke, then explains what happened rather than leaving him to provoke a stronger noble. Frederik's hatred has already faded by this point; shared training and Michael's refusal to flatter him have turned an embarrassing rival into one of the few people capable of correcting him. The relationship becomes reciprocal during Michael's collapse after Daniel's death. Frederik and Jacqueline visit the infirmary even though Michael cannot acknowledge them, then join the others who object when the Zan twins mock his dead brother. Frederik activates Aeroan to help before Michael acts first, treating insults against their “nemesis” as beyond the limits of rivalry. That progress collapses when the Arygats invade his territory. Frederik loses every subject, escapes with cursed wounds, and falls into a coma; his father Igor has already lost his own domain, eyes, and arm. Without access to his Runic Gate, family wealth, or secure status, Frederik believes he can no longer provide for Jacqueline. Michael funds the healer who removes his Curse, but recovery leaves him ashamed and isolated. He refuses Jacqueline's offer to anchor through her territory because he fears dependence would validate the Orlando elders' claim that he is unworthy of her. (Chapters 426–460)

Savannah Alliances and Regional War

The Orlando elders exploit Frederik's vulnerability by threatening Igor's life unless he breaks Jacqueline's heart and ends the engagement. Frederik turns to Michael because he has few other confidants, confessing that he cannot choose between his father and the woman he loves. Michael arranges Igor's healing and offers Frederik a place in the Untamed Jungle. When Frederik accepts Enhanced Wind and Wind Mastery before the pact is finalized, Michael assures him the Soultraits were intended for him and proposes upgrading Aeroan. Frederik accepts Michael's Link of Loyalty and Soul Pact, allowing his ruined Runic Gate anchor to shift to the Untamed Jungle. With Aeroan raised to five stars and its support traits at three stars, he becomes a mass-combat specialist against the Heart of the Blazing Lion army. Invisible Blades curve through the forest and kill thousands of Tier 2 soldiers, while his winds accelerate Forest Elf arrows and shield Hiraku from flames. After exhausting mind and energy, Frederik still pushes back a cloud of Chaos with Michael, Opars, the Elemental Empress, and hundreds of wind elementals, suffering severe mental backlash but saving the jungle. Arx, the Sacred Desert, and Bloodline Revelations

During the campaign against the Council of Xylon, Frederik recognizes that his power is optimized for numerous weaker targets rather than Higher Lifeforms and asks to join the group where he can contribute most. Michael assigns him to support the Forest Elves and clear formations below Tier 3. Frederik's customized Aeroan technique produces invisible wind blades and “aero lances,” but the exhilaration of killing repeatedly tempts him to ignore mental exhaustion. Regional-war gains carry Frederik into Tier 3 and give him the confidence to resume regular contact with Jacqueline. The Nest and the Supreme Human Alliance

Frederik helps manage the Untamed Jungle while Michael is at the Nest, focusing on training rather than High Society politics. That distance initially prevents him from understanding the scale of the Supreme Human Alliance's infiltration, but he notices changes in Kaleb and later compiles a list of families tied to the betrayal. When civil war erupts, fear briefly keeps him at the safe anchor after a professor nearly kills him. He nevertheless returns to Saphirelake and stalls a Higher Lifeform to protect three wounded Berserkers, proving through action that he will no longer preserve himself by abandoning others. After Michael heals him and the Berserkers, Frederik helps Kraft Viton's group identify and capture traitors. He then joins the Sacred Desert campaign against the Blaze household, using typhoons, wind-enhanced arrows, oxygen control, aerial scouting, and area attacks against massed Summons. He remains most effective as part of a combined formation rather than against enemy Tier 5 and Tier 6 leaders. Trials, Divinities, and the Titan War

When Michael recovers Alice and Lincoln, Frederik and Hiraku offer to manage the territories so that rescuing Alice can take priority. In the calmer years that follow, Jacqueline loses her own territory, earns admission into Michael's forces, and reunites with Frederik in the Origin Expanse. They marry, and their son Tom is born about a year later. Origin Liquid cleanses Frederik's body and accelerates his growth as a Higher Lifeform. He kills Blood-Incursed attackers efficiently but spares and separates those visibly resisting the corruption, thinking of what the same system could do to his son. Frederik serves among the experienced leaders who stop Daniel from attacking a Fae Union border settlement alone, then helps the Untamed forces dismantle the wider union. His area attacks remain particularly effective when opposing Lords gather armies, and Jacqueline fights beside the same campaign under the Kolbenheim name. Away from battle, Frederik and Michael watch Tom and Lucia's dangerously inventive play together. He worries that Tom might surpass him before adulthood, showing that rivalry has become affectionate parental anxiety rather than the crisis of self-worth that once followed every defeat. In the campaign against the Tekur Queen, Frederik combines a wind blade with Kaleb's Frozen Nova Essence to freeze and break the Queen's wings. The attack works because their abilities target a specific vulnerability while Hiraku and Mekhaz hold her attention; Frederik is not presented as defeating her alone. At the annual Jungle Meeting he also helps assess the campaign against the Supreme Human Alliance and expresses confidence in Michael's return, remaining part of the command network that supports the Primal war by maintaining the Untamed Jungle and its expanding population. The Unknown Domain and the New Era

Decades after the major wars, Frederik and Jacqueline return to the Tritan Alliance and raise several more children. Their increasing Tier makes further children progressively harder to conceive, but the family is described as happy. They remain protectors of the Alliance even though their strength makes such protection largely unnecessary. This choice brings Frederik back to the society where his public humiliation and family collapse began, now without dependence on the Kolbenheim territory or its old prestige. (Chapters 1119–1120)

Frederik and Jacqueline consider joining Daniel and Rebecca's expedition into the Unknown Domain, though they have not decided by the corpus endpoint. Appearance and personality

Frederik is introduced as a young man with fair skin and large azure eyes. Later passages describe azure hair as well, though the corpus does not provide exact height, build, or a permanent outfit. Because most descriptions emphasize his wind aura, movement, and injuries rather than clothing, no single battle costume can be treated as his fixed appearance across the story. Early Frederik is possessive, status-conscious, quick to anger, and disastrously unwilling to accept a loss. He cares about Jacqueline sincerely, but jealousy and pride make their relationship dangerous to bystanders and make him interpret dependence as humiliation. Repeated defeats do more than lower his arrogance: disciplined training, the loss of his territory, and Michael's aid force him to distinguish inherited privilege from earned reliability. Frederik's mature identity is grounded in work and family. He trains almost continuously, helps oversee the Untamed territories, studies allied cultures, and still makes time for Jacqueline and Tom. Competitive frustration never disappears, especially around Michael and Kaleb, but it becomes a source of effort rather than an excuse to attack after defeat. His humor can be inconsiderate, and stronger friends often flick or beat sense into him, yet Daniel recognizes that Frederik's bluntness keeps Michael from becoming isolated or bored. Aeroan, wind Soultraits, and techniques

Aeroan

Aeroan is Frederik's original three-star Soultrait, a rare elemental materialization ability that creates and controls winds; occasional “Aeoran” and “Aerolan” renderings refer to the same power. Early applications include crescent wind blades, straight-line wind spears, defensive currents, and a roughly twenty-meter control zone. Frederik can hide Aeroan's normal azure or greenish hue to produce invisible attacks, but doing so consumes more energy and concentration. Michael raises Aeroan to five stars after Frederik joins the Untamed Jungle and later to seven stars. The upgrades expand output, precise range, and control rather than replacing its fundamental element. Frederik curves meter-wide blades around forest obstacles, draws more wind into them after impact, creates aero lances and multiple typhoons, enhances arrows, manipulates oxygen, and redirects dangerous clouds. These feats depend on energy, mental focus, allied support, or suitable positioning; the corpus repeatedly shows him withdrawing, drinking potions, or collapsing when he exceeds those limits. Wind Sage's Sacred Body and later refinement

The Kolbenheim inheritance, Wind Sage's Sacred Body, is a hybrid technique developed to compensate for Aeroan's modest initial rating. By refining body, mind, and soul around wind, it reduces Aeroan's energy cost, improves control, and builds an agility- and dexterity-focused physique. Frederik reaches its third stage before Tier 2 and uses wind bursts to lighten and accelerate his movement. At Higher Lifeform ranks, Frederik replaces the lesser inheritance with a Primordial-grade body-refinement method bought after years of saving. Together with Energy Typhoon, it attunes him more completely to wind-attributed energy. The change is a later foundation rather than proof that his earlier training was useless: Wind Sage's Sacred Body enabled the control and elemental familiarity on which his mature specialization rests. Exact details of the Primordial technique's exercises are not supplied, so only its grade and demonstrated attunement can be stated. (Chapter 987)

Enhanced Wind and Wind Mastery

Michael gives Frederik the three-star Soultraits Enhanced Wind and Wind Mastery when inviting him into the Untamed Jungle. Enhanced Wind requires another wind-attributed Soultrait and amplifies Aeroan's power, control, and mastery; without that elemental base it is described as useless. Wind Mastery deepens Frederik's comprehension, helping him create and control Legacy Arts. Their combined effect makes five-star Aeroan functionally comparable to a pseudo six-star ability, though that comparison concerns synergy and does not change Aeroan's formal star rating. The same synergy can be dangerous when Frederik experiments faster than his understanding develops. He damages his limbs and nearly falls to his death while testing new uses, and large-scale wind control causes bleeding and mental collapse. Experience turns the combination into precise battlefield support: he can accept a Minor Typhoon Roc's rough typhoon frame, divide it into controlled appendages, seal energy around allied arrows, and cooperate with other wind users to reduce oxygen. Invisible Blades, aero lances, and combined warfare

Invisible Blades is Frederik's first named Legacy Arts technique. It suppresses Aeroan's identifying hue while maintaining compressed, guided blades, allowing attacks to pass unseen through crowded terrain and continue after cutting multiple targets. Its heightened energy consumption initially forces Frederik to rely on Energy Potions and concealment Artifacts. A customized Soul Technique later supports both these blades and the impaling projectiles he calls aero lances. Frederik's most important applications are cooperative. His gales increase Forest Elf arrows' speed and piercing force, repel flames from Hiraku, combine with Elementals to redirect Chaos, and carry Kaleb's Frozen Nova Essence into the Tekur Queen's wings. These uses show that control can matter more than raw output. They also reveal limits: allied energy can overload Frederik's mind and soul, and specialized attacks require someone else to create the payload or hold the target open long enough for his wind to deliver it. Energy Typhoon, Eye of the Storm, and Maximized Efficiency

By the Divine Academy campaign, Energy Typhoon has replaced Frederik's Energy Pillar. It functions similarly to an Energy Vortex by accelerating War Rune refinement, but it produces only exceptionally pure wind-attributed energy. That specialization strengthens Aeroan and its supporting Soultraits at the expense of elemental breadth. The corpus does not specify the exact chapter or procedure of the transformation, so it is established only as part of his later Higher Lifeform state rather than assigned an invented acquisition point. Eye of the Storm helps Frederik maintain composure and enter a combat trance, raising his ability to endure hostile pressure and mental attacks. Maximized Efficiency, also rendered Maximize Efficiency, shapes an intended attack toward its purpose: a concentrated strike for a powerful target or extremely economical blades against large numbers. At the Divine Academy, this combination lets him assign different blades to different ranks and kill without wasting most of his reserve. Command and tactical judgment

Frederik grows into one of the leading Untamed Awakened beside Hiraku. His value comes from recognizing where a wind specialist belongs within a force: clear weak troops, accelerate allied projectiles, scout from the air, and warn commanders rather than duel the strongest enemy for prestige. He helps administer the territories, researches political traitors, learns about allied populations, and organizes defenses during Michael's absences. His early recklessness never vanishes completely, but later campaigns show him accepting retreats, concealment, and target priorities when they protect the wider army. Jacqueline Orlando

Jacqueline Orlando is Frederik's childhood friend, fiancée, eventual wife, and mother of his children. Their early devotion is possessive and volatile enough to earn them the Barbaric Couple epithet, but the relationship survives their families' political pressure and the destruction of both territories. Frederik initially withdraws because he equates receiving her help with unworthiness. Rebuilding confidence in Michael's territory allows him to approach her as a partner rather than a dependent, and their later family life becomes the clearest evidence of his matured priorities. Michael Fang

Michael Fang begins as Frederik's humiliating rival and becomes his Lord, benefactor, friend, and fellow father. Michael repeatedly defeats and corrects him, then spends enormous resources curing his Curse and healing Igor when Frederik loses everything. Frederik accepts a Link of Loyalty because Michael's offer gives him work and responsibility rather than pity. In return, he defends Michael's territory, supports his friends, and helps lead the forces Michael cannot personally command. Igor Kolbenheim

Igor is Frederik's father and the source of both his early privilege and later sense of duty. He finances the Kolbenheim inheritance and initially recognizes that the academy's setbacks may teach his spoiled son to work. After Igor loses his territory, eyes, and arm, Frederik becomes desperate to heal and protect him. Michael's intervention restores Igor physically, though his mental recovery takes longer. Their later call lets Igor acknowledge that Frederik has grown into the son his mother would have admired, while Frederik's concern for him shows that restoring the family never becomes merely a quest for lost status. Kaleb Zenovia and Hiraku Tearnos

Kaleb Zenovia is a competitive friend who exposes Frederik's weaknesses through deliberately harsh spars. Their elemental specialties differ, but mature campaigns show excellent unplanned cooperation: Frederik shields Kaleb from interference and carries Frozen Nova Essence into priority targets. Hiraku Tearnos first calls himself only Frederik's training partner, then becomes his closest operational counterpart and fellow leader among the Untamed Awakened. The Untamed Awakened

Frederik's Link of Loyalty makes the Untamed Jungle his second territory after the first is destroyed. He initially joins because Michael can restore his strength, but battlefield conduct turns the transactional beginning into communal loyalty. Forest Elves depend on his wind to accelerate arrows, Elementals help him control gales beyond his ordinary limit, and wounded Berserkers survive because he returns to protect them from a Higher Lifeform. By the later campaigns he socializes with other Lords, studies their concerns, and helps lead Michael's military forces, showing that he has become responsible for a community larger than the family he was born to inherit. Aether Wand

Frederik uses an Aether Wand with an emerald crystal during his Tier 2 rematch against Michael. Contact with the wand strengthens the winds forming around him and helps him construct the compact typhoon meant to carry Michael out of the arena. The maneuver consumes most of his energy and fails when Extraction destabilizes the storm, illustrating that the Artifact improves Aeroan's output without removing its resource cost or protecting Frederik from mental counterattacks. The Aether Wand is not among the selected generated item articles. (Chapters 306–307)

Swords, daggers, and armor

Frederik initially carries a longsword during his public quarrel with Jacqueline, later uses paired short blades, and switches to daggers when speed brings him into close range. These weapons supplement Aeroan rather than define his mature fighting style. Armor protects him from some projectile damage, but Kaleb's Ice Bullet cracks it and more powerful opponents can still injure him severely. Camea Artifact and consumables

Against the Heart of the Blazing Lion army, Frederik uses a Camea presence-distortion Artifact to hide while Invisible Blades strike from the forest. When fire exposes his position, he relocates and changes to supporting the archers. Energy Potions extend the expensive invisibility technique, while healing and energy support from Opars and Michael enable otherwise impossible wind control.
