Neremoth
Neremoth is a Darkness-born Eternal and one of the strongest servants of the Supreme World of Darkness. A veteran driven less by duty than appetite for power and cruelty, he abandons the Infinities' orders to seize the Anomaly for himself, only to become one of Nux's forcibly remade subordinates.
Biography
Greed behind an Infinity's mission
Neremoth reveals himself during Zarveth's confrontation with Nux and Sharnoth. He has followed the investigation without being part of Zarveth's announced plan, and immediately identifies the same opportunity: the Anomaly is only a Primordial and could be captured before the Infinities learn of him. Neremoth exposes Zarveth's disobedience but has no intention of reporting it, because he likewise wants Nux's power. Their alliance is therefore a temporary bargain between rivals who expect eventual betrayal but cannot safely fight each other first. (Chapter 2094)
When Nux retreats into his own universe, Neremoth reads the opening faster than Zarveth and follows through the lingering shadow. He believes separating himself from the relic specialist gives him sole possession of the prize. Inside, however, Nux repeatedly destroys his body while studying the memories of previously absorbed Darkness-born beings. Neremoth responds by activating his Domain and chooses prolonged torment over immediate mind-reading because he enjoys breaking an opponent. That choice gives Nux time to assimilate his remaining Primordial Laws. (Chapters 2095–2099)
A Domain overturned from within
Neremoth's Domain appears to deprive Nux of movement, physical power, resistance, and Law, and Neremoth begins testing a blood-contaminating torture artifact on him. Small inconsistencies reveal that Nux can still move and see. Nux then admits the helplessness was staged: knowledge taken from other Darkness Trueborns let him recognize every racial technique and the Law of Absolute Eclipse merely strengthened those familiar abilities. Once Nux completes his universe, its authority breaks Neremoth's Domain and imprisons him in a spatial loop. (Chapters 2097–2100)
Nux leaves the loop under Shadow's supervision while rescuing Sharnoth. He removes light, darkness, and ordinary reality from the enclosure to disable Neremoth's three movement methods, while Shadow maintains the formula and blocks artifact-assisted escape. Neremoth remains dangerous enough that losing control of the prison could threaten the new universe, but he cannot overcome its altered rules. (Chapter 2102)
Defeat, absorption, and rewritten loyalty
Nux eventually returns for a direct fight. Neremoth's unaided speed, claws, and destructive attacks make him a more naturally formidable combatant than relic-dependent Zarveth, and he survives repeated attacks as Nux experiments with gravity, time, and reality. He cannot overcome the universe's owner, however, and after roughly thirty minutes Nux defeats and devours him. (Chapters 2119–2121)
Reading Neremoth's memories reveals that the Darkness Infinity had erased its identity and manipulated his service without ever meeting him openly. Neremoth's own reason for disobedience was simpler than Zarveth's search for knowledge: he wanted enough power to rise above the Infinities. Nux answers that ambition by manipulating his memories into loyalty. Neremoth remains alive through Absolute Inseparable Together and becomes difficult to kill outside a stronger Domain, but his Supreme bloodline is diminished until Nux's young universe can support its original connection. (Chapter 2121)
Appearance and personality
Neremoth is most consistently identified by crimson eyes shining within darkness. His body can disperse into black mist and reconstruct around those eyes, while his combat form uses dark claws and a cloak that can spread like wings. The corpus does not provide a stable height, facial description, hair color, or ordinary clothing beneath that darkness. (Chapters 2094–2096 and 2120)
He is perceptive, predatory, power-hungry, and sadistic. He recognizes openings quickly and understands the logic of temporary cooperation, but his desire to frighten and torture Nux overrides more efficient methods of interrogation. Once he realizes he has been manipulated, amusement gives way to rage and fixation. (Chapters 2094–2100)
Abilities and cultivation
Darkness Trueborn body and movement
As an Eternal Supreme Born, Neremoth possesses a Darkness bloodline connected to the Supreme World of Darkness. Hollow Rebirth lets his destroyed body disperse into black mist and reconstruct around reformed crimson eyes. Nux forces several consecutive reconstructions, demonstrating strong recovery but not establishing an exact energy cost, cooldown, or independent method of permanently preventing it. (Chapter 2096)
His defenses include Worldless Shell, which protects against attacks carrying emotion. His movement includes Darkstep through darkness, a reality-altering method associated with Black Ripple, and propulsion produced by repelling light. Darkstep is described as exceeding the universe's normal speed limit. Nux and Shadow counter all three inside the spatial loop by removing light and darkness, isolating its reality, and maintaining blocks against teleportation artifacts. (Chapters 2096–2097 and 2102)
Law of Absolute Eclipse and Domain
Neremoth's personal Law, Absolute Eclipse, enhances the already established abilities of Darkness Trueborns rather than granting an unrelated power. Its Domain covers the region in absolute darkness, leaves only his crimson eyes visible, and allows spoken deprivation of movement, resistance, physical power, and Law. The exact external radius, duration, and energy cost are not stated. Nux's apparent deprivation is partly an act conducted inside his own universe, so the scene demonstrates the Domain's intended mechanics but not successful permanent suppression of an equal or stronger Domain owner. (Chapters 2096–2099)
The Law's familiarity becomes a weakness: absorbed Darkness-born memories give Nux advance knowledge of its strengthened racial techniques. Nux's completed universe then crushes the Domain because no other Domain remains effective within his authority. This is a situational counter rooted in Nux's inner universe, not evidence that ordinary Primordials can resist Neremoth. (Chapters 2099–2100)
Offensive techniques
Nullfang forms claws that ignore shields and magical barriers by temporarily cutting the concept of defense from the struck area. Neremoth also uses Black Ripple to distort reality with his steps and later fires an Oblivion Ray during his final battle. Nullfang repeatedly fails to connect with Nux once its patterns are known, while reality damage repairs itself inside Nux's universe. The source does not quantify the ray's range or cost, and no post-absorption use shows Neremoth's latest mastery. (Chapters 2096, 2099, 2119, and 2120)
Relationships
- Nux: Neremoth's intended prize and eventual captor. His attempt to torment Nux creates time for the universe's completion; Nux later devours him and manufactures his loyalty. (Chapters 2094–2121)
- Zarveth: A rival Eternal known for millions of years. They conspire against the Infinities while planning around one another, then both become Nux's memory-altered subordinates. (Chapters 2094–2095 and 2121)
- Sharnoth: The opponent Neremoth leaves to Zarveth when he pursues Nux. Their separation enables the two parallel battles; no developed personal relationship is shown. (Chapters 2094–2095)
Items
Neremoth produces a thumb-sized, beetle-shaped torture artifact made by a subordinate. It is claimed to enter a victim, contaminate the blood, and cause extreme pain, but Nux prevents any demonstrated activation. No individually cataloged item is assigned to Neremoth. (Chapter 2098)
