Alcimus

Alcimus Woods is the Emperor-stage Protector of the Woods Dynasty and grandfather of its reigning monarch, Ellinger. Politically suspicious and proud, he ultimately sacrifices his entire Life Force after Nawdren kills his adopted son.

Biography

A pressured alliance against Solid Earth

Alcimus enters the conflict while the Woods Dynasty is losing ground to the Solid Earth Kingdom. When Amaya offers an alliance and evidence that Solid Earth has violated the Peace Treaty, he is furious that Ellinger concealed an earlier warning and wary of letting Skyfall exploit his dynasty's weakness. He tests Amaya with his aura and threatens her escort, Keeve, but the emblem of Astaria and the need for retaliation force him to reconsider. He signs an agreement under which Skyfall will destroy the opposing army while Woods supplies a search party for the Bloodhill Wilderness. Later, he personally shields the captured General Armando from Herms and presents the witness against him, turning a covert bargain into a formal accusation the kingdoms can act upon. That alliance does not erase Alcimus's fear for his own people. When Nawdren offers survival in exchange for submission, Alcimus briefly weighs accepting because Skyfall's growing dominance already threatens Woods. Nawdren instead humiliates him and kills Kyler Woods, Alcimus's disciple and beloved adopted son. Alcimus abandons political self-preservation, burns all of his Life Force, and attacks with enough power to overwhelm the Pseudo-Sage for a time. Nawdren survives by stalling him with wind lances until the sacrifice ages and empties Alcimus. The Protector collapses and dies without killing his enemy, leaving Ellinger to carry the dynasty through the political aftermath. A later Alcimus encountered in Lilith's simulated life for Nux is an illusionary actor, not a resurrection of the man who dies here. (Chapters 615–619, 653, 1413–1423)

Appearance and personality

Alcimus has slight wrinkles and an amiable smile that makes him resemble a friendly elder rather than one of the continent's strongest rulers. His clothing resembles Ellinger's, while the pressure of his aura reveals his greater rank. Burning his Life Force rapidly turns his hair white, shrinks his body, and leaves him visibly ancient before death. (Chapters 552, 617–619)

His friendliness is partly political presentation. Alcimus is proud, suspicious, and willing to threaten visitors when his dynasty is cornered, yet he can suppress anger long enough to accept an advantageous alliance and protect the evidence required to enforce it. His overriding loyalties are personal and dynastic. He considers submission to Nawdren while it might preserve Woods, but the murder of his adopted son breaks that calculation and turns him toward a knowingly fatal act of revenge. Abilities and cultivation

Emperor-stage cultivation

Alcimus is an Emperor-stage mana cultivator whom Astaria ranks as the third-strongest Emperor on the continent. His presence alone can choke Amaya and alarm Keeve, and he can protect Armando from another Emperor's attempt to silence him. Astaria nevertheless distinguishes natural talent and raw cultivation from battle mastery, judging Alcimus less experienced in combat than Herms. The corpus does not name his ordinary techniques or establish their range, cost, or special effects. (Chapters 544–545, 552–554, 596)

Life Force sacrifice

Alcimus's final technique burns Life Force and converts it into a massive supply of mana. Activation is deliberate and immediate; the increase in speed, durability, and striking power lets him drive back Nawdren and initially destroy the Pseudo-Sage's 7-star Lances of Destruction. It is a temporary enhancement with an irreversible cost rather than a permanent breakthrough. Continued use ages and diminishes him until his body can no longer fight, and committing his entire remaining Life Force ends in death. Nawdren counters it by avoiding a decisive clash and waiting for the finite vitality to run out. No safe partial version or method of recovery is demonstrated. (Chapters 617–619)

Relationships

• Kyler Woods: Kyler is Alcimus's disciple, adopted son, and intended personal successor. Nawdren kills him to punish Alcimus, making that relationship the immediate cause of Alcimus's fatal sacrifice. (Chapters 615–619)
• Ellinger: Alcimus is Ellinger's grandfather and the military shield of his reign. He angrily rebukes Ellinger for hiding information but continues acting to preserve the dynasty, whose rule passes fully to Ellinger after his death. (Chapters 552–554, 653)
• Amaya: Alcimus initially treats Amaya as a dangerous negotiator from a rival power and pressures her for proof. Her evidence and Astaria's authority persuade him to cooperate, and the agreement gives both sides a way to act against Solid Earth. (Chapters 552–554, 596)
• Nawdren: Alcimus considers Nawdren's offer only while it appears capable of protecting Woods. Nawdren's humiliation and murder of Kyler make the conflict personal; Alcimus dies trying to kill him, though his sacrifice leaves Nawdren weakened enough for Nux to defeat shortly afterward. (Chapters 615–624)
