Zeke

Zeke is one of the two sentient Little Skeletons assigned to Aurora by Lux. Usually working beside Zane, he becomes a separately named guardian whose duties span combat, scouting, household care, companionship, and music.

Biography

The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss

Aurora meets two unnamed skeletons in her prison and gives them the names Zane and Zeke, completing their contract with her. Zeke's delighted response marks him as an individual despite his near-identical form and constant pairing with Zane. Their conversation and presence relieve years of loneliness, making his first service emotional companionship rather than a battlefield assignment (Chapter 767).

Zeke and Zane later help Lux understand that Aurora's prison wall blocks her but not them, proving their value as messengers. During her inner trial, they plead with the corrupted Aurora to stop, reassemble after being shattered, and are resummoned through purple flames after obliteration. They ultimately glow gold beside the younger Aurora and parry the transformed succubus's raining swords with bone blades (Chapters 926, 930–933).

Abyssal invasion and broken memories

Zeke's domestic role is individually visible when he brings Aurora a tray of warm food while Zane directs her toward the prepared bath. Together they regulate her meals, sleep, clothing, hair, and bedding, functioning as nannies as well as protectors. He later plays one of the instruments during Lux and Aurora's lakeside dance and helps clear the setting when the couple wishes to be alone (Chapters 1031, 1097).

When Lux returns after his long absence, Zeke and Zane tell Aurora and run beside her under bone umbrellas. They then project an Aura of Death to frighten away birds threatening the reunion, and their earlier reassurance has helped Aurora retain hope that Lux might recover. Zeke's latest appearance thus preserves both halves of his identity: practical guardian and emotionally attentive companion (Chapters 1127–1128).

Appearance and personality

Zeke is a small animated skeleton who communicates through clicks and gestures, visually resembling Zane but retaining his own name and actions. He is playful, discreet, loyal, and nurturing: he gossips about Lux, averts his gaze when embarrassed, serves food, plays music, and throws himself into danger for Aurora. The corpus never treats him as a human child or an animal (Chapters 767, 927, 945, 1031).

Little Skeleton abilities

Zeke summons bone swords, fights with two blades during the corrupted trial, forms bone umbrellas with Zane, and emits an Aura of Death. He can pass through Aurora's prison barrier, infiltrate a guarded treasury while its Saints are distracted, and repeatedly reconnect shattered bones. When obliterated, his essence returns to Aurora and purple flames recreate his body (Chapters 926, 930–932, 940, 946, 1128).

His rank rises from Deimos to Argonaut during the trial, but higher rank does not make him dominant. He and Zane can only delay the succubus Aurora, their bone shield cracks under a charging stampede, and Aura of Death scares ordinary birds rather than distinguishing hostile targets. His effectiveness depends on persistence, teamwork, and resummoning rather than individual overwhelming power (Chapters 931–933, 946, 1128).

Relationships

  • Aurora: Aurora names Zeke, becomes his contracted mistress, and places him second only to Lux among the companions she loves. His care supports her physically and emotionally (Chapters 767, 1031).
  • Zane: Zane is Zeke's constant partner in defense, scouting, domestic work, and performance, though the narrative preserves separately named actions such as Zeke carrying Aurora's meal (Chapters 940, 1031, 1097).
  • Lux: Lux creates the skeletons and relies on them to guard Aurora. Zeke's stories sometimes embarrass Lux, but his protection gives Lux confidence in Aurora's safety (Chapters 767, 927, 946).
