Zane

Zane is one of two small, sentient skeletons created by Lux to protect Aurora. Almost always acting beside Zeke, he develops from an unnamed escort into Aurora's guardian, household attendant, scout, and companion.

Biography

The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss

When Lux assigns two Little Skeletons to accompany Aurora, she gives them the names Zane and Zeke and establishes a contract with them. The naming distinguishes two otherwise matching undead constructs, while the contract makes their protective role personal rather than merely an extension of Lux's orders. Zane's earliest identity is therefore defined by service to Aurora and partnership with Zeke (Chapter 767).

Their bond becomes decisive during Aurora's confinement and corrupted-memory trial. Zane and Zeke can move through a barrier that imprisons her, relay stories about Lux, sleep beside her, and repeatedly reconstruct themselves after she shatters them. They oppose her corrupted self without abandoning her, rising from Deimos to Argonaut rank and using bone swords to defend the younger Aurora even when they cannot overpower the succubus form (Chapters 926–933).

Abyssal invasion and broken memories

Away from open battle, Zane and Zeke become musicians and caretakers. They play violin and lyre during a romantic evening, keep Aurora's quarters orderly, prepare food and baths, brush her hair, and stay close when she sleeps. These duties show that Zane's protection includes emotional reassurance and domestic stability, not only combat, while his constant coordination with Zeke makes the pair function as a practiced team (Chapters 1031, 1097).

When Lux returns in a damaged state, the skeletons tell Aurora that he has arrived and accompany her beneath bone umbrellas. Zane's Aura of Death frightens nearby birds, an unintended effect that contrasts with the gentle reassurance he offers his mistress. The chapter appearances at 1012–1014 and related entries concern the unrelated Zane Kingdom, not this Little Skeleton; his last verified personal action is beside Aurora in Chapter 1128 (Chapters 1127–1128).

Appearance and personality

Zane is a small animated skeleton whose speech is often rendered through clicks rather than ordinary human dialogue. He is visually near-identical to Zeke, but Aurora treats them as separate individuals after naming them. His behavior is loyal, mischievous, and attentive: he trades stories, performs music, improvises practical protections, and continues trying to help Aurora even when her altered state destroys his body (Chapters 767, 927, 931, 1097).

Undead guardian abilities

Zane can form and wield bone swords, construct a bone umbrella, emit an Aura of Death, and reassemble after his bones are broken apart. Purple flames can restore or resummon the Little Skeletons after more complete destruction, making bodily damage temporary under the observed conditions. He can also pass through at least one barrier that confines Aurora, which makes him useful as a messenger and scout (Chapters 926, 931–932, 940, 946, 1128).

His rank increases with the power granted during Aurora's trial, but strength remains relative. Even at Argonaut rank, Zane and Zeke together cannot subdue the transformed Aurora; their bone defenses crack under heavy impacts, and their Aura of Death indiscriminately alarms harmless animals. Their effectiveness therefore comes from persistence, coordination, and repeated reconstruction rather than overwhelming individual power (Chapters 931–933, 946, 1128).

Relationships

  • Aurora: Aurora names Zane and becomes the center of his contract, protection, and daily care. He resists her corrupted state in order to protect her younger self rather than simply obeying her immediate violence (Chapters 767, 927, 931–933).
  • Zeke: Zeke is Zane's inseparable fellow Little Skeleton. They fight, scout, perform, and maintain Aurora's household as a coordinated pair, but remain separately named individuals (Chapters 767, 940, 1031, 1097).
  • Lux: Lux creates both skeletons and entrusts Aurora to them; their stories about his adventures and their announcement of his return help preserve Aurora's connection to him (Chapters 767, 927, 1127).
