Prince Lowell

Prince Lowell is the dissolute fourth prince of Ashina. Kept away from the capital because of his reputation, he uses a private army and powerful bodyguards to prey upon young women in neutral territory until an attempted mass abduction brings him into conflict with Lux and the alliance of the Six Kingdoms.

Biography

The Lionheart Tournament and the Hidden Domain

Lowell encounters the Six Kingdoms’ teenagers outside the Hidden Domain and views their isolation as an opportunity to seize Iris, Henrietta, and the other women he desires. His prior courtship attempts had already turned to schemes and force; now, protected by a Ranker, four Initiates, and a large army, he threatens to kill the men and abduct the women while pretending peaceful surrender might save witnesses he actually plans to eliminate. When resistance begins, Lowell orders Esmond to kill Vera’s avatar and tells his soldiers to massacre the men. His decisions transform a chance encounter into a battle that kills his own troops, grievously injures Vera, and temporarily destroys Eiko’s body. (Chapters 299–302)

The intervention of Keoza reverses the power balance. Lowell, who had depended on his title and entourage rather than personal courage, experiences Dragon Fear, surrenders his storage rings with the rest of his force, and is carried away by Esmond. He remains alive and at large in the cited aftermath because the adult powers agree that the younger generation must settle the dispute without triggering a wider war. The consequence is therefore unresolved rather than absolved: Lux and Iris both vow revenge, while Lowell’s Ranker bodyguard continues to make a direct pursuit dangerous. Appearance and personality

Lowell is a blond human teenager. No eye color, height, or stable clothing is established. He is lecherous, cruel, entitled, and calculating enough to use false promises and the absence of witnesses, but his calculations assume that status and hired strength will remove consequences. He becomes impatient when subordinates cannot win quickly and panics under Keoza’s concentrated Dragon Fear. His behavior toward women is coercive rather than romantic, and his reputation for abuse precedes his on-page appearance. (Chapters 299–303)

Royal resources and private army

Lowell commands a private army supported by four Initiates and the D-Ranker Esmond, whom he raised to Ranker status by concentrating resources on a loyal but otherwise untalented retainer. This lets him threaten groups that cannot match those ranks and shields him from ordinary retaliation. The arrangement is also his central limitation: he shows no named personal combat skill, relies on Esmond to intercept Lux’s Dragon Breath and carry him away, and loses control once stronger opponents and undead reinforcements break the army’s numerical advantage. Intimidation and deception

Lowell uses royal status, threats against companions, and false offers of survival to pressure victims into surrender. Henrietta immediately exposes the flaw in the tactic—he cannot safely leave witnesses—and the united teenagers choose resistance. His intimidation works only while the audience believes his force is unbeatable; Keoza’s Dragon Fear turns that premise against him and renders him barely coherent.
