Marchosias

Marchosias is a Demigod-ranked Abyssal Lord whom Daniel subjugates by force. Commanded to investigate the route used by Lux and James, Marchosias recognizes their disguise but deliberately lets them pass, later refusing to waste his Legion in Daniel’s final war.

Biography

The rescue from the Abyss and the final war

Daniel sends Marchosias and his Legion to investigate the vanished sentinels on the Fourteenth Layer. Marchosias obeys because defeat left him a choice between service and death, not because he supports Daniel. When he encounters Lux and James disguised as Abyssal travelers, his nose detects that they are human and his questions expose weaknesses in their cover story. He nevertheless steps aside with a mischievous warning rather than attack. Although duty and watching eyes later force him to report the empty post, he withholds the fugitives’ true identities, enabling their rescue mission to continue while preserving enough plausible obedience to survive Daniel’s suspicion. Daniel later threatens to kill Marchosias for the failure, but the Black Wolf refuses to grovel and bluntly tells the Pseudo-God that fighting would only have killed him and his soldiers without changing Lux’s escape. During the last war, Marchosias applies the same unsentimental judgment on a larger scale: he orders his Legion to stop attacking Lux’s floating island and watches the decisive powers instead. He hopes Daniel loses because that death would free Abyssal Lords who never wanted the invasion. His latest action completes a progression from covert noncompliance to open battlefield restraint, motivated by survival, hatred of coercion, and responsibility for his own troops. Appearance and personality

Marchosias is a two-meter-tall black wolf with Griffin wings and a snake’s tail. He is perceptive, mischievous, proud, and difficult to intimidate. Although pragmatic enough to submit after defeat, he does not confuse forced obedience with loyalty and meets Daniel’s death threat without begging. His decision to spare infiltrators is calculated rather than sentimental, while his refusal to sacrifice his Legion shows that he values his soldiers more than Daniel’s campaign. Supernatural scent and detection

Marchosias’s nose identifies Lux and James as humans despite their demonic appearances and fabricated affiliations. The sense provides information, not automatic compulsion or perfect knowledge: he still questions them to test the story, and Daniel can later accuse him of accepting their stated destination. Marchosias deliberately chooses not to act on what he detects, so the encounter distinguishes detection mechanics from allegiance. No evidence gives the range of his scent or shows it piercing concealment beyond this close confrontation. (Chapters 1157–1158)

Demigod body and Legion command

As a Demigod and Abyssal Lord, Marchosias commands a large Legion and can travel through restricted portals under Daniel’s authority. His wings imply aerial mobility, but no named attack or completed personal combat is shown. His rank does not erase stronger threats: he retreats from Antero, and Daniel himself concludes that opposing Lux’s rescue party would have killed Marchosias and his subordinates. In the final war, his most effective use of command is withholding troops from a battle they cannot decide. (Chapters 1156–1159, 1177, 1212)
