Lorelei
Lorelei is a High-Elf Necromancer trained by Kieran and the niece of Hereswith. She emerges from her Ranker Trial confident that her vast undead force will overwhelm Lux, but the disrupted duel becomes the foundation of mutual respect and a future obligation between them.
Biography
The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss
Lorelei emerges from the World Tree as a newly advanced Ranker and accepts Kieran’s wager that the loser of a duel with Lux will obey the winner for a day. She initially looks down on Gaap’s still-Initiate disciple, then deploys tens of thousands of undead, multiple high-ranked Named Creatures, and further Octopath reserves when Lux’s smaller army breaks her front line. The battle never reaches a normal conclusion because Lux’s Ranker Trial and the Ancestral Grounds’ crisis intervene. Afterward Lorelei concedes defeat rather than demand a rematch, sets a boundary against perverse orders, and gives Lux her family emblem so he can seek her in Espoire Frieden. Competition thus changes into conditional trust and an unclaimed future favor. (Chapters 760, 762–763, 766, 773, 779)
The rescue from the Abyss and the final war
When Golden Abominations assault Espoire Frieden under Nyarlathotep’s dome, Lorelei controls the Calamity-ranked Werewolf Luison and orders it to defend the civilians at the city walls. Luison can slaughter the lesser invaders and raise allied morale, but neither it nor the degraded Saints can answer the Outer God itself. Lorelei’s latest role is therefore defensive leadership rather than another personal duel: she commits one of her strongest controlled creatures to protecting her people while Hereswith confronts the larger existential threat. The scene demonstrates major growth in the scale of her forces without claiming that she can overcome divine power. (Chapter 1185)
Appearance and personality
Lorelei is a very beautiful green-haired High-Elf who appears to be in her late teens. She wears a close-fitting black dress and has black angel wings, and Lux recognizes a family resemblance to Hereswith. She is proud, competitive, and confident in the army she built, but not dishonorable: once circumstances establish Lux’s victory, she accepts the wager while clearly defending her personal boundaries. Her later command at Espoire Frieden shows responsibility toward civilians and her homeland. (Chapters 760, 779, 1185)
Abilities and skills
Lorelei is a Ranker-class Necromancer capable of commanding tens of thousands of undead. Her army’s Unholy Aura raises attack and defense by 100 percent and offers resistance to Divine Magic, although Lux’s stronger divine buffs negate it. Her known host includes five Deimos-Ranked creatures, an Argonaut-Ranked Doom Lord, and twelve Deimos-Ranked Octopaths; she can also throw Giant Bone Spears and has an unspecified last-resort trump card that Kieran fears she may use. By the final war she controls Luison, a Werewolf whose rank cannot fall below Calamity. These strengths depend on prepared undead numbers and controlled creatures: elemental or Divine counters can tear through the army, and even Luison cannot challenge an Outer God protected by Divinity. (Chapters 762–763, 1185)
Relationships
- Kieran — Lorelei’s master, who trained her through Ranker advancement, boasts about her talent, and prepares to protect her during the Divine Army attack. (Chapters 755, 760, 769)
- Lux — Her duel opponent and Aunt Hereswith’s grand-disciple. Lorelei moves from condescension to a conceded debt and grants him access through her family emblem. (Chapters 760, 762–763, 779)
- Hereswith — Lorelei’s aunt and fellow defender of Espoire Frieden. Their kinship connects Lorelei to Lux’s necromantic lineage without making them master and disciple. (Chapters 779, 1185)
- Gaap — Kieran’s rival and Lux’s master. Lorelei initially inherits Kieran’s low opinion of him, but the duel’s outcome undermines that certainty. (Chapters 760, 779)
