Jackal

Jackal is Andras’s Empyrean-ranked second-in-command and the strategist leading the Twelfth Layer’s ground invasion of Queen Rhiannon’s domain. He recognizes several dangers his master overlooks, but his conventional mass-army tactics are repeatedly turned into resources for Lux’s necromancy.

Biography

The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss

Jackal gathers Andras’s army while privately questioning why his master would challenge a Demigod he has not surpassed. He understands that victory depends on seizing the Thirteenth Layer’s Abyssal Core before Rhiannon can destroy the invaders, but obeys without pressing Andras for the hidden source of his confidence. On the battlefield, Jackal initially sends two Legions against fewer than two thousand defenders and disperses half his army to find the Core. Once Lux reveals a growing undead force, he correctly identifies a Necromancer as the priority and commits additional Legions, trading efficiency for the chance to end a threat that becomes stronger around corpses. (Chapters 902–903)

Corpse Explosion and Blackfire turn Jackal’s numerical advantage into a liability. He shifts to long-range bombardment and accepts killing his own engaged troops to deny Lux fresh bodies, a ruthless decision motivated by the survival of the remaining army. Asmodeus counters with Bone Cannons and disguised aerial payloads; Jackal orders concentrated fire, but the exploding shells release Hecatoncheires and other attackers into his lines. The final cited scene leaves his forces being overrun as Demigods redirect the larger battle. No chapter confirms Jackal’s death, escape, capture, or service after Andras falls, so his personal outcome remains unresolved rather than safely inferred from the army’s defeat. (Chapters 904–905)

The Divine Army reckoning

Chapter 906 continues the same Abyssal battle despite falling within the manifest’s later phase. Jackal reacts to incoming Skeleton Cannonballs by massing spellcasters and ranged units against them, but some detonate early while others deliver giant undead directly onto his front. The tactic demonstrates fast command response but also its limit against layered deception: destroying the apparent projectile is part of the enemy’s plan. Jackal is not named after the ground force collapses, and later accounts focus on Andras and the Demigods, leaving the general’s latest state unverified. (Chapter 906)

Appearance and personality

Jackal is an Abyssal Demon and Empyrean-ranked Alpha Monster, but the supplied chapters do not establish his horns, skin, eyes, height, clothing, or weapon. He is cautious, analytical, disciplined, and loyal enough to execute orders he doubts. He recognizes the danger of Rhiannon and necromancy earlier than many subordinates, yet becomes increasingly ruthless under pressure, sacrificing his own forward troops when he judges close combat strategically impossible. His concern is military success rather than personal glory. (Chapters 902–906)

General and Empyrean abilities

Army command and adaptation

Jackal commands multiple Legions whose soldiers range from Rank 5 to Deimos, with officers reaching Dreadnaught. He assigns search forces, reinforces threatened fronts, changes priorities, and coordinates massed long-range attacks. Those abilities require communications and disciplined formations. Against Lux, every concentration of troops and every casualty can feed necromancy, while Asmodeus’s deceptive ammunition defeats straightforward interception. Jackal can adapt orders quickly but lacks the information and unconventional tools needed to stop a force that changes composition during battle. (Chapters 902–906)

Empyrean-ranked personal power

Jackal is explicitly an Empyrean-ranked Alpha Monster, making him the strongest named ground commander under Andras in this invasion. Blackfire wants to devour him but initially refrains because half the Demonic Army protects him, demonstrating that formation security matters even at his rank. The corpus does not show a named spell, weapon technique, or direct personal exchange, so his exact combat mechanics remain unknown. His rank does not protect his army from Demigod-scale intervention or establish that he survived its collapse. (Chapters 903–906)

Relationships

  • Andras: Jackal serves as Andras’s second-in-command, questions the invasion privately, and leads the ground army while his master fights Rhiannon. (Chapters 902–906)
  • Lux: Jackal correctly identifies Lux as the priority Necromancer, but each attempt to overwhelm him supplies more bodies and openings for counterattack. (Chapters 903–906)
  • Asmodeus: Asmodeus designs the Corpse Explosion and Bone Cannon tactics that repeatedly defeat Jackal’s conventional responses. (Chapters 904–906)
  • Queen Rhiannon: Jackal invades her layer to capture its Abyssal Core, while recognizing from the start that Andras has not openly surpassed her. (Chapters 902–906)
