Guthram
Guthram is the Adventurer's Guildmaster of Aeston Town in the Vahan Empire. He gives Lux a recommendation for the Trial of Leadership, quietly directs him toward endangered Bradford Town, and later joins its defense. His mixture of political insight, manipulation, and practical aid makes him an indirect but important sponsor of Lux's guild ambitions.
Biography
The Lionheart Tournament and the Hidden Domain
Guthram receives Lux with a calm manner, immediately grants the requested recommendation, and discusses how purportedly neutral institutions still protect political interests. He then maneuvers Lux into delivering a letter to Boris at Bradford, never directly calling the journey a rescue mission. The scheme sends capable help where Guthram cannot go while Aeston faces its own monster threat, and the letter's teasing demand for repayment reveals the friendship beneath his calculated method (Chapters 333, 334, 335).
Guthram has already disrupted the enemy's local plans by dispatching adventurers against goblin nests. After preparing Aeston's defenses, he follows the distant smoke on a Hippogriff, attacks the rat monsters threatening Bradford's refugees, and helps hold the canyon line beside Boris. He later conceals Lux's identity from imperial investigators and provides another letter of introduction, converting the crisis into both civilian survival and forward progress toward Lux's Trial of Leadership (Chapters 336, 340, 342, 343, 344, 345).
Appearance and personality
Guthram is a middle-aged man who wears a monocle over his right eye. His calm presence puts people at ease, but Lux correctly senses a shrewd and potentially scheming intelligence underneath it. Guthram flatters, redirects, and even escorts Lux out before the Half-Elf can refuse his implied assignment; nevertheless, his concern for Boris and his personal arrival at the battle show that the manipulation serves real protective loyalties rather than detached amusement (Chapters 333, 340, 342).
Guild and combat abilities
As an Initiate, Guthram casts a large Fireball strong enough to destroy already-injured Rank 4 monsters and fights from the air while mounted on a Hippogriff. His battlefield impact helps stabilize a defense but does not by itself break the rat army's stalemate. Outside combat, he commands adventurer deployments, reads regional politics, prepares town defenses, and uses Guild credentials strategically; those tools depend on his office, contacts, and others' willingness to act (Chapters 333, 336, 340, 342, 343).
