Grandma Annie
Grandma Annie is a dwarf alchemist, candy-shop owner, and elder of Leaf Village. She is the first villager to meet Lux’s isolation with uncomplicated kindness, later defending the community, raising Laura and Livia, and becoming one of the family figures Lux restores after the final war. (Chapters 17, 46, 202, 1229)
Biography
Awakening and Leaf Village
When other shopkeepers distrust Lux as the village’s first non-dwarf Foreigner, Annie gives him tea and explains that fear of the unknown can be overcome through harmless conduct. During later threats she acts as an elder rather than merely a kindly merchant, urging food reserves, shelter, and restrictions on travel during the mosquito crisis. Her compassion is therefore practical: she recognizes fear, then organizes people so it does not become fatal. (Chapters 17, 46)
Annie comes to regard Lux as part of Leaf Village’s legacy, sharing Randolph’s confidence in him and persuading him to accept the founder’s equipment after he saves the settlement. She also becomes guardian to Laura and Livia, giving them food, affection, work in her shop, and the prospect of learning alchemy. Those choices turn a lonely household into a family and extend her care beyond the adventurers who eventually leave. (Chapters 139, 169, 202)
Open Heaven’s Gate
Lux resurrects Annie with her youth restored and provokes Randolph into admitting his century-long love. Annie answers the public chaos in characteristic fashion—disciplining both men with her sandals—yet accepts Randolph’s proposal despite knocking him unconscious for embarrassing her. At the joint wedding she walks the aisle as a young woman granted a second life, transforming a long companionship constrained by age and hesitation into marriage. (Chapters 1229, 1234)
Appearance and personality
Annie is initially an elderly dwarf woman with rough hands, a walking staff, and the lived wear of many hardships. She is warm, perceptive, and maternal, but never meek: she argues forcefully in council, treats injuries under attack, and physically corrects Randolph’s foolishness. Resurrection restores her to a beautiful woman in her early twenties without changing the authoritative kindness by which Lux and the twins know her. (Chapters 17, 46, 161, 169, 1229, 1234)
Abilities and skills
Annie is an alchemist who produces Panaceas, healing and mana potions, pills, and emergency supplies used by Leaf Village’s defenders and adventurers. She applies healing potions directly under battlefield pressure and teaches through gathering, recipes, and shop work. Her output benefits from production bonuses and available herbs, which indicates a material, prepared craft rather than spontaneous healing magic. (Chapters 121, 134, 161, 226)
She can fight beside the village during outbreaks and retains enough awareness to sense strong approaching monsters, but she is weaker than Initiates encountered on later journeys. Her practical limit is therefore scale: she excels at preparation, recovery, evacuation, and local defense, while stronger companions handle high-ranked enemies. Youth restoration improves her physical future, but the corpus gives no new combat rank or expanded alchemical technique afterward. (Chapters 46, 546, 1229)
Relationships
- Lux: A grandson-like figure whom Annie welcomes, advises, and protects; he later resurrects her and pushes Randolph to confess. (Chapters 17, 169, 1229)
- Randolph: Her longtime friend, habitual sparring partner, and eventual husband after more than a century of unspoken affection. (Chapters 139, 1229, 1234)
- Laura and Livia: The twins she raises, feeds, and begins training around her alchemical work. (Chapters 202, 226)
