Draven

Draven is a shadow-aligned undead whom Lux creates and names as a member of his Covenant. His synchronized strength, disguises, stolen memories, and capacity to deploy Shadow Warriors make him equally valuable as Lux's constant bodyguard, a covert operative, and a commander in large battles. (Chapter 594)

Biography

Heaven’s Gate and the continental wars

Lux creates Draven because he deliberately wants a reliable Shadow Lord rather than another uncertain experiment. Draven immediately kneels, accepts his name, joins the Covenant's oath, and merges into Lux's shadow to guard him continuously. That loyalty quickly becomes operational: he infiltrates the Haca army, sabotages its magical cannons so they cannot destroy the Orc capital, and retains enough technical knowledge to reproduce their blueprints. His Shadow Warriors later monitor a teleportation gate, while Draven personally searches for Garret's daughter and protects Eiko during the escape, turning a newly made summon into a trusted intelligence and extraction specialist. (Chapters 594, 603, 614, 619, 621)

The rescue from the Abyss and the final war

By the Abyss rescue, Draven is called a Shadow Sovereign and still serves through concealment as much as force: he hides Lux inside his shadow, then merges with James's shadow so they can pass a guarded portal under disguise. During the final conflict he commands Shadow Warriors beside Lux's other upper-tier followers and abandons the ground battle when the Floating Island is overrun, placing himself between the island and the Abyssal Legion. His development therefore preserves his original protective purpose even after his army and standing have expanded—the larger his command becomes, the more territory and people he can defend on Lux's behalf. (Chapters 1144, 1158, 1187, 1210)

Appearance and personality

Draven first appears as a two-meter-tall hooded creature whose face is hidden and whose body releases dark mist, giving him the appearance of an ominous end-stage enemy. He behaves with the restraint of a sworn knight: he bows rather than boasts, reports intelligence precisely, and answers the order to protect Eiko with an unqualified willingness to stake his life. His habit of standing beside Lux with folded arms reinforces the image of a silent bodyguard rather than an attention-seeking commander. (Chapters 594, 619, 621, 1144)

Abilities and skills

Draven's defining mechanic is Nightmare's Shadow: his statistics perfectly replicate Lux's, so his raw strength rises with his master rather than through an independently documented rank path. Summon Shadow Warriors initially creates at most fifty troops two ranks below Draven, with fifty more permitted whenever Lux advances; merging all of them produces one Shadow Demon equal to Draven's rank, trading numbers for a single stronger unit. Shadow Bind halves movement, attack speed, and health, mana, and stamina regeneration when Draven or one of those shadow creatures steps on a target's shadow. (Chapter 594)

His espionage kit is powerful but conditional. Shadow Steal acquires the memories and experience of a creature Draven personally kills, stores only five shadows, and lets him replace an old one to copy a stored victim's appearance and weapon expertise. Life Sense detects invisible or transformed life, while Shadow Armaments shapes weapons that benefit from those stolen proficiencies. One With Shadows, Shadow Swap, a shadow body, and shadow flight support infiltration and extraction, but his best disguises therefore require a personal kill and finite storage rather than unrestricted imitation. Walking Nightmare also has only a twenty-percent chance to inflict fear within three hundred meters. (Chapter 594)

In practice, Draven combines concealment, surveillance, sabotage, and mass defense. He can merge with another person's shadow while carrying Lux, station Shadow Warriors as remote watchers, and reproduce technical information gathered undercover. His later title of Shadow Sovereign and the mass of warriors deployed in the final war show increased scope, but the latest scenes still present him coordinating troops and protecting the Floating Island, not discarding the role-dependent limits established for his individual skills. (Chapters 603, 614, 619, 1158, 1210)

Relationships

Draven's central bond is the Covenant oath to Lux, whose statistics he mirrors and whose shadow he normally inhabits. Lux trusts him with missions that require discretion and with the immediate safety of Eiko. Draven also operates alongside Asmodeus, Bedivere, Zagan, and the other Covenant members, but his distinct contribution is to make the group's protection continuous even when Lux is traveling covertly or the army is divided.
