Darius

Darius is an elderly Saint who shares authority over El Hazard with Sion. More cautious than his hot-tempered comrade, he prioritizes the city’s civilians and later fights in Agartha’s defense when the Abyssal Army invades.

Biography

The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss

Darius warns Sion not to underestimate Lux and Gaap, then intervenes when their confrontation threatens El Hazard. He persuades Gaap to move the fight outside the city, calms the population, encloses El Hazard in a reinforced white barrier, and activates its magical defenses against Sion’s final attack. Although privately amused to see his arrogant friend humbled, Darius negotiates seriously after Blackfire captures him and truthfully reports the entire incident to King Septimius. He ultimately carries the injured Sion away, combining civic duty and personal loyalty even after his warnings prove correct. (Chapters 853, 856, 858–864)

The rescue from the Abyss and the final war

When the Abyssal host reaches Agartha, Darius joins Sion, Cleo, and Garen at the head of the kingdom’s army. The old disputes surrounding El Hazard no longer matter under existential pressure: he fights without retreat because Agartha, its people, and their families face destruction. The chapter does not isolate a named finishing technique or state that Darius dies. His latest confirmed state is therefore active on the defensive line alongside the other senior Agarthians, not among the dead or reconstructed rulers awakened from ancient remains. (Chapter 1138)

Appearance and personality

Darius is an old man whose age Sion mocks, but his calm judgment remains sharper than his comrade’s first impressions. He is observant, civic-minded, patient with difficult personalities, and willing to negotiate rather than escalate. He also has a dry, mischievous side: he enjoys Sion receiving a deserved beating and laughs at Blackfire’s audacity until its false heavenly announcement threatens his reputation. His later frontline service confirms that caution is not cowardice. (Chapters 853, 856, 861–864)

Abilities and skills

Darius is a Saint capable of creating a white dome around El Hazard that both shields the city from stray attacks and prevents residents from entering the battlefield. When Sion’s strongest attack threatens the barrier, Darius strengthens it and integrates the city’s magical defenses, demonstrating large-area defensive control rather than merely activating a preexisting system. The source does not name his weapon, element, or offensive techniques, and his final-war appearance only places him among the commanders fighting the Abyss. His barrier also requires reinforcement against Saint-level fallout, so it should not be treated as absolute protection. (Chapters 858–860, 1138)

Relationships

  • Sion — Darius’s reckless fellow Saint and friend. He warns Sion, protects the city from his battle, negotiates his release, and later carries him to recovery before fighting beside him against the Abyss. (Chapters 853, 856–864, 1138)
  • Gaap — Darius recognizes Gaap as the greater hidden danger but works with him to spare civilians rather than initiating a fight. (Chapters 856, 858–860)
  • Lux and Blackfire — Darius tries to recover Sion from Lux’s coffin, only to become a target of its blackmail. The standoff ends when King Septimius hears his report. (Chapters 861–863)
  • King Septimius — Darius’s ruler, to whom he gives a full account of Sion’s violation of the royal safe-passage decree. (Chapter 862)
