Bruno
Bruno is a Barbatos Academy official who oversees logistics, officiating, and safety during the Lionheart Tournament. Assigned to help ensure Lux survives the event, he balances crowd-facing showmanship with rule enforcement and emergency protection.
Biography
The Lionheart Tournament and the Hidden Domain
Bruno processes applicants under Alicia's authority and recognizes the badge identifying Lux as a protected participant. He respectfully routes Lux to the correct arena, then publicly explains the Royal Rumble's time limit, surrender mechanism, prohibition on killing, and medical safeguards. His job is not to favor Lux's results, but to preserve the tournament's rules while quietly ensuring the vulnerable-looking entrant is not allowed to die (Chapter 221).
As the tournament advances, Bruno becomes announcer, judge, disciplinarian, and safety officer. He hypes contestants for the crowd, curbs Cai's improvised commentary, investigates a destroyed official scroll, supervises transparent ballot drawing, and summons emergency healers when Lux nearly kills an opponent. When attacks crack the arena barriers, he and Judge Dredd reinforce the final shield protecting spectators (Chapters 230, 238, 240, 248–254).
During the final, Bruno invites Violet as a reserve commentator and cues her when Cai's transformation turns the expected quick match into a spectacle. He also supplies factual clarification about Lux's summons while continuing to monitor the battle beside the other judges. By the end of his recorded role, he has kept the event legible, entertaining, and survivable despite combat far exceeding the organizers' initial expectations (Chapter 261).
Appearance and personality
Bruno is over six feet tall, with blond hair, blue eyes, and a heavily muscled build visible beneath a sleeveless shirt; Lux compares his appearance to a professional wrestler. He speaks steadily when giving rules and can perform enthusiastically for a huge crowd, but becomes stern when contestants disrupt proceedings or mishandle academy documents. His irritation is forceful without displacing his consistent concern for due process and safety (Chapters 221, 230, 238, 240).
High-Ranker abilities
Bruno is identified as a High-Ranking tournament judge. He can teleport himself and another person away, react quickly enough to enter a dangerous arena immediately after a near-lethal attack, extinguish flames with Judge Dredd, and reinforce a barrier already cracking under an extreme collision. His physical grip is also strong enough to restrain disruptive contestants, though that scene functions more as discipline than a formal combat feat (Chapters 238, 240, 248, 254).
Several tools supporting his work are external rather than innate. He uses an artifact to magnify his voice across the arena and participates in telepathic communication through another artifact. The corpus does not name a personal combat class or signature attack, so his demonstrated limits are best understood through role: he operates as organizer and defensive responder, relying on clerics, mages, other High-Rankers, and layered barriers when tournament-scale damage threatens civilians (Chapters 221, 248, 254).
Relationships

- Judge Dredd: The two share judging, ballot supervision, emergency intervention, and barrier defense, operating as the tournament's principal official pair (Chapters 230, 248–254).
- Cai: Cai repeatedly tests Bruno's patience through disruptive showmanship, yet Bruno still treats Cai's final fairly and helps present the unexpected performance to the crowd (Chapters 238, 249, 261).
