Astra
Astra is a white Unicorn and one of Iris’s Guardian Beasts. Proud, jealous, and fiercely protective, he becomes Eiko’s recurring rival while remaining dependable whenever Iris’s safety is threatened.
Biography
Awakening and Leaf Village
Astra meets the newborn Eiko as a rival for Iris’s affection and immediately tries to intimidate her. His jealousy hardens into an openly competitive relationship, culminating in a formal rematch after Eiko’s growth in Elysium. Astra initially underestimates her, then activates his lightning aura, homing attacks, barriers, teleportation, and strongest spell once she proves dangerous. He wins only after holding back enough to avoid critically injuring her, and the bruises she inflicts force him to accept that continued superiority requires training rather than arrogance. (Chapters 86, 175, 177–178)
The duel also clarifies Astra’s underlying loyalty. He nudges Iris affectionately after she treats his injuries and withdraws without boasting over Eiko’s exhaustion. His concern is not simply possessiveness: he is one of the experienced beasts assigned to keep Iris alive in Elysium, and his willingness to temper a decisive attack around a younger family member shows that rivalry operates inside that protective duty. (Chapters 86, 177–178, 195)
The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss
In a later arena rematch, Astra releases his seal and assumes a winged demi-human form at the peak of Argonaut World Boss strength. He fights Eiko with twin swords, clones, and the wide-area Magna Kyrie Eleison, but his ultimate is nullified by her immunity and he concedes when she answers with a giant Skeleton Bomb. The loss reverses their old hierarchy without ending it: Iris reframes his record as two victories to one and gives him a new reason to train, while Astra accepts that Eiko has become a genuine peer. (Chapters 803–805)
That competitive development is followed by a more serious test in the Abyss. Astra helps Cai free Iris from Ampelos, carries his unconscious mistress away as a streak of lightning, guards her through recovery, and returns to the Satyr lair despite exhaustion and guilt over leaving Cai behind. In demi-human form he uses precise lightning to draw the Satyrs away, relying on superior speed while acknowledging that the transformation has a time limit. His latest actions therefore place protection above pride. (Chapters 872–873, 878–880)
Appearance and personality
In his normal form Astra is a pristine white, roughly two-meter-tall Unicorn with a horn and an openly arrogant posture. Releasing his seal produces a handsome silver- or white-haired young man with a golden horn, angel-like wings, and a sword in each hand. He is jealous, contemptuous of weak challengers, and reluctant to admit concern, yet his conduct repeatedly reveals discipline, affection for Iris, and a protector’s willingness to exhaust himself on her behalf. (Chapters 86, 175, 178, 804, 879–880)
Unicorn and guardian abilities
Astra’s normal combat style combines extreme speed, short-range teleportation, flight, magical barriers, and lightning. He can coat his body in damaging electricity, redirect a Lightning Blast toward a target after it blinks away, call down broad lightning storms, and use Thunder’s Fury as his strongest early attack. His monster sensitivity helps locate concealed lairs, and his bond with Iris supports telepathic communication. Barriers can withstand strong impacts but still throw him across an arena, while prolonged combat and high-speed evacuation visibly drain his stamina. (Chapters 177–178, 804, 879–880)
Releasing his seal elevates him from an Argonaut Alpha to a peak Argonaut World Boss and grants a winged demi-human body, twin-sword combat, clones, and Magna Kyrie Eleison, a light-based ultimate said capable of killing a Dreadnaught. The form is explicitly time-limited, and the ultimate’s element creates a hard matchup limit: it cannot harm Eiko below Divine strength because she is immune to Holy, Light, and Divine magic. At his latest appearance, Astra can again assume the form after rest, but only briefly. (Chapters 804–805, 880)
Relationships
- Iris: Astra’s mistress is the center of his loyalty. He accepts her orders, carries her from danger, stands guard while exhausted, and returns to battle when she chooses to rescue her companions. (Chapters 86, 178, 872–880)
- Eiko: Their jealousy-driven feud matures into a rivalry that pushes both to improve. Astra wins their early encounters, loses their later arena duel, and retains a competitive but familial role. (Chapters 86, 175–178, 803–805)
- Cai: Cai creates the opening that lets Astra recover Iris and orders him to prioritize her safety. He obeys reluctantly, understanding that evacuation is the only way to preserve his mistress. (Chapters 872–873)
