Divine Spear Waning Snow

The Divine Spear Waning Snow, usually shortened to Waning Snow, is Chehou Yuan's proudest High Quality Heavenly Divine Artifact and Qin Yu's principal spear. Its later infusion with Dark and Yellow Energy greatly raises its power without making it a separately crafted replacement weapon.

History

Acquisition, use, and later custody

Chehou Yuan leaves Waning Snow sealed in the Bewitching God Temple's courtyard and tells his successor how to release it. Finding Chehou Yuan's hidden message is enough to qualify Qin Yu for the spear even before he controls the temple's sealed palaces. Qin Yu releases the barrier, binds the spear with blood, and learns its name and two auxiliary effects through the resulting soul connection. Uncle Fu explains its construction and thereafter treats it as Qin Yu's weapon, not as property he personally holds. (Chapters 457–458)

Although it contains no Grandmist Spiritual Energy at first, Chehou Yuan's workmanship gives Waning Snow power comparable to a second-rate Grandmist Spiritual Treasure. Qin Yu later places it in the Dark and Yellow Energy produced during the birth of his cosmos. The spear grows steadily stronger while absorbing that energy and reaches its own limit after nearly ten million accelerated years, having taken in one tenth of the available amount. Qin Yu continues to wield this same completed spear against Godkings and Sage Emperors, and it remains bound to him through the end of the scoped corpus. (Chapters 495–676)

Abilities and properties

• Body Break: the bloodline imprint around the spearhead forces a wound even against bodies too durable for an ordinary strike to destroy and can explosively break a successfully pierced body. (Chapters 458, 668)
• Devouring Soul: contact drains or attacks soul energy even when physical damage is limited; repeated strikes can disperse a soul. The effect is exceptionally rare among Heavenly Divine Artifacts. (Chapters 458, 567, 668)
• Before its infusion, its performance is already comparable to a second-rate Grandmist Spiritual Treasure. Less than one thousandth of the Dark and Yellow Energy raises it to roughly first-rate performance; its completed state contains ten percent and is far stronger still. (Chapters 495, 516, 564, 590)
• Its Dark and Yellow Energy can repel or weaken some soul-affecting forces, but Qin Yu can use that energy only through the spear. Absorption is not unlimited: Waning Snow stops permanently at its own ten-percent capacity. (Chapters 564, 627)
